BRB university tuitions have outpaced the rate of inflation
BRB degrees have lost their value due to saturation
BRB I will be thankful just to make $40k starting/year
What are you majoring in?

Every single one of my student loans is in my name. My mother hasn't paid a cent to the university. She paid her way through college, too, and so did both of my brothers when they went to CC, although one of them didn't finish. He's looking at going back and actually finishing this time. I'm encouraging him to do so, but I also want to ask him to live with me once I get an apartment here in Iowa City. There will be tons more of opportunity here, and in addition to the university, there are also a couple CC's around.

Speaking of apartments, does anybody have tips/suggestions on how to find a decent deal? I have no idea where to start. I want to live a little bit away from campus, as that is way cheaper and there are less student apartments around, so it will be quieter and not filled with drunken idiots.

BRB interviewing with microsoft on thursday
BRB no need to go to an expensive *** private school, just work your *** off and do stuff outside of what you learn in school. Employers want to see that you are passionate about what you want to do in life, and are not just doing it for the paycheck

Suggestion: get an apartment closer to campus. At least for me, it was very nice being only a few min drive away from campus, and a 20 min walk. Didn't have to pay for a parking pass, and walking to class every morning was pretty relaxing; but I got to walk through an arboretum. Also, roommates are way fun, just set expectations in the beginning and give people some wiggle room. However, lay down the law when necessary. A new roommate I had left trimmed pubes all over the toilet... Not cool, and I chewed him out for it. Never happened again.

Just deal with the drunken idiots; they are entertaining and if you are surrounded by kids your age, it's easier to make friends. It's all part of the experience. You'll have your whole life to be a recluse if you wish.

I'm not going to be driving around campus. That is simply not possible in Iowa City. I'm not a social person and being around people I dislike won't help that kind of thing. I don't party or go out on the weekends. I don't like to, and I don't have anybody to do those things with. The kind of people that I socialize with don't do those things either.

Your on the west side, when it snows over here there is no way you are walking to school. I'm only a 20 minute walk from campus.

Good luck!
Exactly man, people were making judgments when I was working on their car. I'd get looks like is this kid really working on my car; it doesn't help that I have a baby face. I did the automotive school because at first I wanted to be a technician. I worked as a mechanic for a semester in a ghetto area of chicago. A suburban white kid working in a predominantly hispanic area made me mature and realize that 99% of people will try to f*ck you over some way. I learned a lot of street knowledge and how to deal with those types of people. Going to work with my old man for the past several summers made me realize how to hustle and make money. Just want to add that I do a decent amount of buying and selling here on pbn and ebay; this will transition over nicely to my potential job. Can't put this on a resume but it's quite useful.

Anyways, after that semester I knew I wouldn't be content busting my *** for 12hrs a day for $30K a year. I was weighing my options of going back to school for business then I got persuaded into going back. Only regrets were passing on opportunities in attending well known colleges such as Depaul, Oklahoma St, and basically failing out of NIU (had a 2.0 gpa and put on academic probation; realized that it would take another year to get my gpa back up). Voluntarily pulled myself out of that uni and attended a local commuter uni. All in all, I come out with an automotive/business education that I can easily apply to working with my old man (hopefully it works out) otherwise I will end up like 90% of other business grads applying to ****ty retail jobs to start out career-wise.

Please don't take my posts as arrogant. My whole family is entrepreneurial so i tend to take over their thinking/business habits.

Geez, you guys get THAT much snow over there? I thought maybe a foot at most? I guess all the more reason to live closer to campus. My little sister just started over there, and I've gotta make a visit over to check up on her and keep her in line. Whens the worst time of year to be driving over that way?

They city does a good job at keeping the roads drivable, but walking to school on side walk that is ice snow and more ice isn't very fun.

Also the frat boys are probably keeping her in line.

Also I am going to have gone to school (net of time off) for 4.5 years. Though I will graduate with a BS in Accounting, BS in Econ Theory and a minor in mathematics. Am I doing it wrong chem? I am already half way to 18 hours of 4.0s (yes I have a 4.0 in all my classes as of now) and I plan to do the same over the next two semesters with ease. Hence, this extra time will not only give me extra learnings but it will also bring my GPA up. I am even considering financing an extra 3 credit hours per semester myself so I can take 2 semesters of 21 hours.
Hoping overexaggeration to prove a point

Walking on the snow an ice is the best/most fun part...the next step could be your last. Plus, watching other people eat **** is pretty damn entertaining. But I'm probably bias'd. I love snow. SO MANY ACTIVITIES!

My pops forced my hand when it came to Trinity, then again it is not like I gave many ****s back then. Though I am glad I went to it, as I am happy about where I find myself now and I can't say with any certainty where I would have ended up if I went elsewhere.

Umm no, I was actually being dead ****ing serious. If you can't score well on those then you have no business in grad school. For people that have the potential to score like that it will take hundreds of hours of prep (hundreds of minutes if you're Lurker), but it will be time well spent.

One of my best friends who happens to be a chick goes to school in IC. If I'm ever in the area I'll shoot you a message, would be cool to get a workout in.

On a side note, I love forums to death. Even though there is a load of BS there is also an inherent sense of working to become a better person. Everyone shares their stories and figures out how to better approach situations in order to make the best of what they have...all with the occasional lolcat picture

Degrees aren't impressive without a job. You can have a Ph.D in organic chemistry, but if you're unemployed no one gives a ****.
