Not like I'm inclined to stick up for the higher education system because I'm in the thick of it, too, but he signed up for it and now he has to pay for it. If nothing else, I'm very dedicated to honoring commitments that I make. Others need to do the same.

Well yeah. I'm not saying it's the education system's fault that he has debt. School costs a lot of money and most people need to borrow to pay for it. But it shouldn't lead to nearly as much debt as it does, and it definitely shouldn't do that in a job market that is super-competitive even for people with degrees now.

As long as you're not one of those "all student loan debt should be forgiven" nitwits, it's all good.

Oh god no. You signed that paper, you better do what you said you were gonna do.

It's just that right now, signing that paper doesn't look like as good a decision as it used to be.

Some majors are even more (career) suicidal than they used to be. You're probably better off being an electrician or plumber than you are wasting four or five years of your life to earn an english degree, for example.

I will never understand people who get English degrees with no intentions of teaching English.

If you expect to write books and make a living off of it, good luck with that. In any case, the English degree probably isn't going to help you do it.

Getting an English degree seems just as useful as getting a Psych degree. Don't get me wrong, I love psychology and I wish I could feasibly get a degree in it, but that degree would do jack **** unless it was a PhD.

Psych degrees are attractive because our generation knows everything and understands everything.

I have a buddy who's getting an art degree and he knows he's ****ed. I'm not sure why he hasn't just cut his losses yet.

That's another one that I'll never understand.

What can you possibly learn about art at a school that's actually going to be practical knowledge for you, even if you become an artist or work in art?

You're going to know more about different artists and their styles throughout history, but it's not going to help you be any better at making art, I wouldn't think.

Edit: At the same time, I'm more than willing to **** on myself for going to school for Computer Engineering, knowing full-well that the market is saturated and that it's only going to get worse between now and the time I get my degree.

Most people I know going for Art degrees aren't focusing on teaching. If you are, that's a bit different.
