My Spyder Sonix
So I bought my first marker a couple of months ago for $30, a black spyder sonix. I've bought an Empire 4500 psi tank and the following...
- 12" bore barrel
- laser site
- 21" sniper hush barrel
- Tacamo Paintball Arc Loader
I've gotten good at 10 to 50 feet shots, its the further distances that i'm not as accurate at hitting. I only use the 21" barrel in woodsball and situational games and it works alright but its to long for speedball. The laser site doesn't work well in sunlight but great indoor.
Is there any barrels or site options that help with longer shots for a spyder marker?

You can check out the apex2 barrel it might help with long range shots. Other then that just practice practice and more practice.

Upgrades to make the gun more consistent would help with the long range accuracy. Alaso, a good paint to barrel match would benefit your accuracy.

So other than seeing if the paintball doesn't roll down down the barrel, what are the steps to fitting paintballs to your barrel?
Anyone have a link to it?
I checked on Google but most sites tell you it's offered at paintball shops. I only have fields and sporting goods shops that don't offer paintball fitting.

I have a freak kit. It improves the accuracy quite a bit over my stock avant barrel. Then again, I've heard that the stock avant was crap while the stock sonix was decent.

The barrel is good for less than 50 foot shots.
I've enjoyed the sniper role and found many open shots at 60+ feet but i'm hitting a 2 foot radius over 55 feet. I'd like to be able to pick off players further away.

This may prove to be a little quicker and easier than going through each barrel/insert. http://www.ansgear.com/Rufus_Dawg_Ba...sizerblack.htm

Quite simply, an accurate 75-foot shot isn't going to happen with a Spyder. I suppose if you added an inline regulator, spring kit, and HPA, you'd be able to hit maybe a couple foot target with a single shot, but since you have semi-automatic, it becomes accuracy by volume, which isn't all bad but you do burn a lot of paint that way.
The marker can become very accurate with the right upgrades, but if you aren't accurate it doesn't matter if it's the most accurate gun ever made because you won't be able to hit the target. Laser sights are really only good for windage, but for elevation they're not going to help at all. Practice shooting at farther targets and you'll get better!

Is there an accurate addition like a stock or a specific site that can assist with far shots on a spyder model?

Here is my gun as of Sept 7th...
Have the clip on feed neck
Tamaco dual feed gravity hopper
21" muted barrel * has reduced my sound but the bolt is still loud
Is there a hush bolt for the Spyder Sonix that makes a difference?
Or is my gun going to make the mechanical sound no matter what since there is a moving piston?

Anyone play a Tech T Hush bolt? I see them for the Spider Sonix but don't know if they make a difference.

The Sonix its a solid woods ball gun. I took out 3 kills for 3 round in a row.
The 21"barrel takes 2 psi per shot than a 12 to 14" barrel. I get 2 woodsball games it of 3000 psi on
However I got lit up by an electric at 40 feet on a pathI didn't see coming.
Are most 60 to 80+ feet shots about putting as many shots on a target in order to hit the target?
What is the most accurate long distance spyder out there?

I got a .693 bore barrel that's spyder thread but doesn't work on my sonix.
Maybe it's not a spyder thread, but are there 2 spyder thread types?

I'm looking at the threads and it looks like this barrel should work on my marker but it doesn't.
Anyone else play an evil barrel on their spyder?

First and foremost, you can forget being a "sniper" because a paintball cannot be made to behave the way that a bullet does. A longer barrel will NOT make a paintball go further, nor will it make the gun more accurate. It will only waste your air pushing the ball through extra inches of pipe. Rifled barrels do not work in paintball since the balls are liquid-filled and their center of gravity constantly changes. Therefore "sniping" in paintball is better described as "ambushing" since you can't take these long shots and must instead hide and wait for players to come into range. Ideally you would have a ghillie suit and the whole nine yards but believe me, it's only fun in theory and you will be incredibly bored.
Now, if you want to keep the one-shot-one-kill mantra, conserve paint or even just get more eliminations, then you must shoot good paint (this is key!) and practice your own first-shot accuracy by shooting targets and snapping the gun up to shoot. 21 inches is too much barrel in fact I wouldn't be surprised if the unwieldy extra length is hurting your first-shot accuracy.
I had an Evil pipe kit for my Spyder Pilot and loved it. However if you aren't satisfied with its performance then you should try different paint. What are you shooting through it right now? Also try a shorter barrel with no laser sight; this will make the marker much easier for you to control.

I'd like to use the Evil barrel I have now, it's just the threads don't work with my sonix.
I'm playing JT mid level paint now. It makes a difference.

If you purchased that evil barrel kit used, the threading may have been mislabeled. All spyders use the same threading (with an exception or two like the Kingman Hammer).
To potentially make your sonix a smoother shot, make sure your striker and bolt are oiled (but not too much!), add a regulator (in place of the expansion chamber fore-grip), get a spring kit, and/or convert to Low Pressure (requires modifications and possibly a new valve).

I'm spending money on better paint, $50 per case vs. $30.
For barrels, I'm finding that 12" to 14" is the best for me. A laser point is a great option for 20-30" tops.
I'd like a better site on the gun, something that would go in place of the dust cover.
Do they make a "red dot" or some sort of "look through" or site that goes in place of the dust cover?
