M98 Offset Air Source Mod

Basically, I am wanting to move my ASA up from the grip to the side of the barrel so it will run parallel with the barrel. I think it will help with balance and will look cooler. Plus having the tank and my stock on at the same time was really uncomfortable.

Currently my plan will only utilize 9oz tanks since a 9oz is easier to work with and is lighter than a 20. Could also hold a 13ci easily.

I dont have pics from when I started so here is what I did before I took pics.

1. I removed the ASA from the Powertube and installed a 1/8" NPT M/M nipple and a 1/8" NPT F/F adapter which I then attached a remote nipple to. I had to grind out the hole a bit to fit the adapter, and it worked and looks fairly nice. Ill need the hose so I kept it aside.

2. I removed the plastic part of the grip and all of the internals so it was easier to work with. I then cut a 1" x 1" solid bar of a aluminum 2" long. I held one side flush to the marker and marked off about where I needed to cut/ file out for the curve in the marker.

3. Using my Dremel, I used a few cutting discs to get about the size of the groove I needed. I ran out so I attached a large drill bit to my corded drill and milled out the rest. I put it up against the marker and filed it until I was happy.

4. I then marked a spot on the aluminum to compensate for the rise by the foregrip. Using a flat file, I just shaved it down until the entire part fit flush against the gun.

Mostly finished.

5-?. Next I need to mark/drill/tap holes for the duckbill ASA, mark/drill/tap holes to hold the aluminum spacer to the marker body, and assemble the gasline.

Well I got my ASA and fittings today, but while I was tapping the holes my tap snapped in half. Will hopefully finish next weekend after I do some modification to the adapter block since it has to be redrilled for new holes.

Broke another tap. What a pain. Luckily I was able to get the ASA holes tapped, so I just need to tap 2 more. Aiming for a completed project next weekend.

Im hoping for better balance. Plus the tank under the stock is a real P.I.T.A. to maneuver.

Im hoping not to. If tapping holes ends up failing this next time around ill have to ditch the block and remake it. It looks frankensteinish enough.

If you can't get this side mount working, why not try just mounting the ASA underneath the barrel? As long as you kept the ASA as close to the back of the barrel as possible, a full tank wouldn't mess up the balance too bad.

I was thinking of doing underbarrel but it would be a lot more fabricating because I want to keep my foregrip.

What you could do is actually get one of the 2k3-2k4 WGP cage ASAs and tap a pair of holes in the side of the body near the back. You'd need to be careful, but it shouldn't affect the hammer if you get some shorter screws. Just run the air line directly from the ASA into the macroline fitting at the bottom of the valve...just a suggestion.

Well, I have done this before. One problem you will have is you'll be sucking liquid co2 so you have to put in a siphon tube. That will help but it doesn't get rid of the problem completely. I get about 300 shoots with my 9oz. You will still get velocity spikes regularly, I can't use my setup at the field because my chrono can vary up to 30fps..... That's alot. You could go hpa. And I have mine under barrel,it gets heavy after a while. It turns alot of heads at the field because I made it look like a m203 but accuracy gets shot to hell cause it still sucks liquid co2.

Don't get me wrong, the siphon filter helps. It's just when your tipping your gun down and then bring it up to shoot you'll have a few inconsistent shots before the liquid clears through the line. Still a good idea but wanted to let you know what to expect. I have respect for people out there that make there own mods, keep it up.

Not sure why a standard anti siphon wouldn't eliminate liquid like it does normally.

You ever think about getting a gas-thru grip and an expansion chamber?

I have a gas-thru grip kit but no EC. Bought it just in case I should ever need it.
