And Smarty, I dont hate your picks, but the problem with picking the favorites from last year is it rarely comes to fruition. I mean....how many times have we looked at teams coming off a good year, and said "man...they're going back this year without a doubt" and been dead wrong? Its just...the league is so full of parody now a days and even the teams with top tier QBs are subject to the upset in the playoffs (Patriots in 2009/2010, Giants in 2008, Packers in 2007/2011, Chargers every year, etc) All the time teams who do well and go deep are failing the following year...with the exception of Pittsburgh, New England, Philly, Baltimore, Indy (with PeyPey), GB, and the Giants (with Eli)really stand out in repeated post season births. Since 2000, 31 teams have made the playoffs, with the Bills being the only team failing to advance to the post season in that span. What that tells me, is that parody allows for teams without "stud" QBs are essentially unpredictable.
The top 5 teams in terms of most playoff appearances since 2000:
1) Indy (10)
2) Fagboys (9)
3) Pitt (8)
3) GB (8)
3) Baltimore (8)
4) NYG (7)
5) NY Jets (6)
And for S&G's, the teams tied with 5 appearances are:
New Orleans, Denver, Tampa, Tennessee, Atlanta, Seattle, and San Diego.
At the end of the day, my point is, picking anyone outside those top teams with the exception of Indy and the Jets is a risk. Not sure if theres a direct correlation (I highly doubt there is), but its worth a gander.
|
Well, as NE and GB have been perennial contenders I just think they will both be at peak power next year. New England reloaded on defense and added some fire on offense. Green Bay will be smarting after not even winning a playoff game. I think they both have the talent and motivation to get the job done. I feel the same way on the difficulty of sustaining excellence, which is why i have Baltimore and New Orleans falling off a little bit. I just think both New England and Green Bay are strong enough to get back to the show. And if it's not Green Bay it will be the Giants IMO.
The second tier of teams is a little tougher to pick. I'd put Pittsburgh, Denver, Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, San Francisco, Baltimore, Houston in that next tier. They all have the talent and the chance to move up into the top tier, but they could also fall into the lower tier if one or two things don't go their way.
In short, I think you're right about parity, I just think New England, Green Bay, and the Giants are all strong enough and deep enough teams that they will be there at the end of the season.

Replace the Cards with the Dolphins and I think you got it. I think that with the division the Cardinals are in, they won't be able to lose as many games as the other teams around that talent level. The Browns in particular are ****ed because they have 5-6 automatic losses on the schedule in that division unless they can get a miracle.

you do have a point that is a weak division. The dolphins im not too sure about in the top 5 but they will be just outside of it another weak team is the bills could struggle

The Bills aren't very good, but they aren't BAD either. I see them right around 7-9, just like they usually do.

I'm going out on a cracked limb with this....but I'm going to go ahead and make the bold statement that the Cowboys will not only be a playoff team, but the best team in Texas.

we can easily split with the bungals and stillers. last year we played all both teams extremely close and we have improved a lot in the off season. i think we play the steelers when dildo harrison is still out which makes a huge difference. as a whole i think pitt is worse off this year and the improvements they made to their weak o-line...well...ACL tear is a *****.
i also think the bungals will do significantly worse this year than last. the big issue facing the browns and bungals is the cake walk schedule of last year is replaced with one of, if not the hardest, schedule in the NFL
in all honestly i only expect 4-5 wins out of the browns and i do not even feel good about that. even if they come out and surprise the **** out of me i dont see them possibly winning over 7. they have talent but half the starters are rookies or 2nd year dudes.

I said 5-6 because I can see them splitting with the Bengals. I see them getting easily swept by the Ravens and I just think the Browns are going to suck so I'm picking them to be swept by the Steelers. Cleveland does find a way to hang tough for the divisional games, though, so anything is possible. Kind of.
I see the Bengals being decent because of A.J. Green.

browns pretty much play everyone close because our defense is actually really good. if they could have actually produced SOME offense last year they could have easily been 9-7. the red zone O was particularly bad, it was like watching the LSU Bama game all over again, field goal city

I agree with you on the Jags, Browns, and Rams. The Cards have a legitimate defense though, and while the Jets are a circus, they aren't in the bottom five yet. I would consider Oakland, Tampa, Seattle, and Miami all before the Jets or Cards.
