Is paintball less popular or are there not as many active users on PbNation anymore
I use to paintball a lot from 2005-2008. Couple times a month and was always on PbNation learning new things and helping others and there seemed to be a huge group of people as well. There were always new threads or comments and it seemed very alive here. I've recently come back after a four year college break and PbNation seems, for lack of a better word, pretty dead. I don't know if it's just me or what but it seems no one is on anymore. I remember a new paintball video posted frequently and it was great. Now the videos section never moves. There are only a handful of people in each of the major paintball makers sections and the threads are the same for days on end because no one comments. The only thing that is alive on this website is the BST forums. Has PbNation become just a website to sell primarily? Is this indicative of the sport in anyway or is PbNation losing users?
I don't mean to sound rude in anyway and I apologize if I have but it was just something I noticed recently.

Once classes start, paintball is dead to me. Work, classes, friends, etc. PBN keeps me sane until summer and winter breaks hit.

I'd say it's a pretty common question for those of us who are returnning, but you have to take the economy into account.
Paintball is a hobby, and an expensive one at that. When the economy went south, more than a few companies disappeared (read Smart Parts, 32 Degrees, etc).
Many people sold off their gear (with more than a few going to a pawn shop to do so) just to make ends meet. Paintball either went on the backburner or completely away for those people. Life was tough.
Beyond that, it's just my opinion, so I'll keep that to myself.

I'm not sure what you are looking at but I see plenty of new threads daily.
But on the other hand there are only so many times people can ask questions that aren't already posted and answered on here

There's a hell of a lot more sub-forums for whatever reason, which spreads things out. A lot of people left the sport and the game hasn't changed much, so the discussions get kind of repetitive.

Damn, it's really dropped off a lot. I'm wondering if getting back into the sport now isn't the best time

Just because the website doesn't get as much traffic doesn't mean its a bad time to get back into the sport. My local field has a TON of people show up every wekend

The interest in paintball has steadily decreased over time... if it is also like that with other sports/hobbies with around the same amount of cost to play, then the decrease would probably be caused by the economy. If it is only paintball that has a decrease in interest, then that would probably mean less people are getting into paintball.
This is probably common sense but I am dumb lol.
Also, paintball isn't word in the dictionary? (I just realized there are red lines under the world paintball when I type it [I know you can add it to your own dictionary on your computer])
TL;DR: If paintball interest is decreasing at the same rate of other sports in same price-range then it is probably caused by economy.

I checked Google insights for "Skydiving"(my other sport). Interesting enough the overall search volume has'nt declined so the price range argument doesn't convince me with it

Fact: Insights data shows a growing number of searches for "Paintball spielen" ("Playing paintball") in my country (Germany)

Just did the same thing as dirk.
Exceeept, I also did lacrosse, bmx, racing, and skydiving in comparison to paintball. (generally things that arent cheap to keep doing, with the exception of lacrosse, i just couldn't think of another sport lol)
Every single one of them has declined by more than half (except lacrosse, which has this funky wave pattern, I'm assuming that represents the time of each year it's played), soooo, I'm rolling with the economy for this one.
