How do important people in your life feel about your love for paintball?

Hey,
I know alot of people have wives, friends, family members, etc. that may not appreciate your love for the sport the way you do. Is this the same way for you, and if you've conquered this problem, how?

Wife has her hobbies, i have mine, and we each make time for both without either interfering. Works out great.

Majority of my friends also play paintball, as well as the cousin that got me started, so no issues there.

Rest of the family is indifferent, which works out fine for me. They also live super far away so it doesn't matter.

i've been playing for 12 years, and what's true now has been true since the 90's; when you're the only one you know who plays paintball or knows anything about the game and the industry, it's hard not to be "that guy" that drags it into almost every convo.

what can I say, everything reminds me of it.

Indeed. Somehow everything is related to paintball. I just hear alot of guys complain that there wife or girlfriend hates that they not only play but always talk about it. I recently got my wife and daughter to finally try it now they understand a bit better. Unfortunately it also means I've got to start buying gear for them and my paint cost is about to triple!

I don't usually mention it unless the discussion is something outdoors. I hike, bike, run, kayak, play soccer, paintball etc. I think the only exception is when I post tournament vids on facebook.

Nobody that isn't willing to try it understands it. Even the wife. And she's got her own gear and plays upon occasion. Just doesn't understand how much I love to ball.

The people I know (that don't ball) think paintball was a stupid fad in the 90s-00s and do not understand my love for the sport.

My oldest friend is always really condescending and rude when I try to talk to him about paintball...which really pisses me off, because he can see my passion for it.

I've been met with a lot of unsupportive criticism. Even from my family. They keep telling me to stop wasting my time and money on a pointless hobby...

Just need to snag me a sexy, positive baller to date...he'll get it.

Well at least you're already a girl, I'm guessing it's probably easier to get a guy to play and/or understand.

You'd be surprised....most guys think I'm crazy because I'm too into paintball. They don't get it, either.

Parents have never cared for it when i was younger. They still think it's a waste of time but I have many other hobbies. Most of my friends either play or played so they are always up for it. Surprisingly never had a problem with a gf. All of them wanted to try it and just went paintballing with the current gf and she's really excited to go play again. Already got her a jersey and pants and helping her with the rest.

I've tried to stop talking about paintball. It's almost embarrassing to say that I do it on the weekends. Sometimes when it relates to the subject in the discussion I'll say, "It's just like this sport I do over the weekends." But I won't mention it's paintball. Sometimes I'll say it's basketball to throw people off just so they can relate.

Why should anybody care really? If it's something you like doing then screw all those negative remarks from loved ones!

I see many couples bringing their girlfriends/wives to the fields! It's the perfect date!

Wow I'm actually surprised to find that most of you don't butt heads with spouse/gf/bf about it. Around here it seems like at least half the players I know have this problem. I'm just trying to figure out why it's different elsewhere.

What about those of us who are married? I think that may be a bit different if they have a spouse who isn't interested in trying it. It took me at least two years to get my wife to even attend an event with me.

My girlfriend is very supportive of me playing, it's the gun whoring she's not too happy about. She figures it makes me happy, then it's good. She's played a few times with me, and already has pretty much everything just need to get her a gun and loader.

My family is kinda whatever, I mean I'm not spending their money so what can they say.

I can tell you one thing: a wife and/or daughter that don't get it can be rather stressful lol!

Look man, my ex-wife wouldn't give paintball the light of day. I didn't paintball again until after I was divorced. Paintball was my main hobby before I was married. I played for 10 years nonstop before being prevented from doing so cold turkey.

Sorry dude, nobody should ever have to quit unless it's by choice. It might have ended similarly with my wife, except she's the one who talked me into trying it. Sure I had a paintball gun in high school but I never actually played paintball with it, just caused trouble. See, she thought I was too anti-social and after turning down a prior invite by her brothers to play she talked me into going. I said "I don't know, sounds like alot of money for some stupid game for a couple hours" (think I spent thirty bucks that night lol). Well you all know how it goes from there, I'm hooked. I'm eating, sleeping and s****ing paintball. For at least two years I couldn't help but talk about it to everyone, which is probably pretty annoying, but it was the only thing I could think of. Long story somewhat short...was on the road to a possible divorce until she attended an event. Here's the difference between me and you man: I wouldn't have quit paintball lol!
