I understand Doubling the score for cup...more teams means harder to win....but triple the score is a bit extreme, and this is coming from a player who plays for a team that that triple score could actually help take the series.

So we took 2nd and 5th in PSP events this year....say we took 1st at cup

The first is tripled, the 2nd is doubled, and the 5th is also doubled since it can be counted as two events correct? This is according to wht Camille posted since she said WC is 3x....top PSP is 2x...and another PSP event can be 2x

But your formula doesn't double 3 pspevents, it only doubles 2 psp events. So your second worse showing is also minimized additionally.

2012 Season Prizes
The top team in each division of the PSP World Rankings will receive the Series Championship!

Division 1 RaceTo-5: off each 2013 entry for the Pro RaceTo-7 division.
Division 2 RaceTo-5: off each 2013 entry for the D1 RaceTo-5 division.
Division 3 RaceTo-4: off each 2013 entry for the D2 RaceTo-5 division.
Division 4 RaceTo-4: off each 2013 entry for the D3 RaceTo-4 division.
Division 3 RaceTo-2: off each 2013 entry for the D3 RaceTo-4 division.
Division 4 RaceTo-2: off each 2013 entry for the D4 RaceTo-4 division.
Pump: 1/2 off each 2013 entry for the Pump division.

Standings Calculations:
Pro and D1: Sum of All Scores
D2,D3,D4: Sum of:
Triple World Cup Score (up to 300 Points)
Double your best PSP Event or PSP Affiliate League Championship score
Top Three remaining PSP or PSP Affiliate event scores*
* A single PSP Event Score can be counted twice

See the current PSP World Rankings at http://paintball-players.org/scores/world/2012.html

What hapens if the winners of the 2012 D4 RT2 or D3 RT2 earn so many player points that they aren't eligible to compete in D4 RT4 and D3 RT4? it seems likely that the D4 winners will all be D3 a the end of the year.

Translation: You have not locked up the season before playing the Championship.

If you tank World Cup, when you're playing a much wider selection of teams, then another team who does do well at Cup and also has good scores from the regular season might beat you.

It's somewhere between a circuit (i.e. pre-Chase for the Nextel/Sprint Cup NASCAR) and most other sports in the US where what you do prior to the playoffs doesn't count for anything other than seeding and home field advantage.

Correct. And if you have not played another PSP event or PSP Affiliate event in addition to your 2nd and 5th, then you're going to be short 100 points.

That's one way to explain it. Another way to explain it is you want to get as many top-place finishes as you can. 1st 2nd 4th is probably better than 2nd 2nd 3rd. It makes winning more important than whether your loss is 12th or 16th place.

I am 99.9% sure that if you win half of D4 RT4 that you can use it on D3 RT4 and 80% sure that if you win D3 RT4 half off you can use it on D2 RT5 (and 99.9% sure you can at least take the value of the half-off up to D2 otherwise) but I will ask.

Does PSP still have a prize pack for winning the actual PSP season? No affiliate feeder leagues. Just playing every psp event.

So then a affiliate team ( only played affiliate leagues ) and has not played a single actual PSP national event can still win the PSP division?

If they play Cup and do very well there, yes.
