There's plenty of benefits to being ASM outside of feeding our business model. Being able to search any time, no restrictions on how often posts can be made, access to the ASM-only forum (which I'll admit, I don't venture into myself all that much), being able to do the giveaway contests without sending John a postcard, blah, blah, blah. The official laundry list of benefits is:
Ability to search PbNation 24 hours a day, without having to wait!
Larger avatars (Up to 100x100 pixels and up to 32KB in size)
25 Megabytes of file attachment space (bmp, doc, gif, jpg, pdf, png, txt)
Increased Private Messages limit from 200 to 400
Increased signature size from 850 to 1300 characters
No waiting time between posts
2 free Gold Ups. Worth up to $35.98*
Private forum for Annual Supporting Members
No 30 second search rule
Discount on purchase of BST Trust
Ability to display up to 6 profile badges
Ability to enter exclusive giveaways for Annual Supporting Members instantly
Those Gold Ups can and are regularly sold if someone doesn't need or use them, too. Beyond that, a lot of people here look at ASM subscribers as more solid/trustworthy people to work with. I know I prefer doing business with ASM users when I'm buying or selling things.
Of course, a lot of people are just fine with being a standard member, and that's OK, too.
