Good advice too. Budget and buy used. For gear don' t forget the power of the trade, some baller right now is tired of his gear or broke. If you have followed the first piece of advice then when stuff comes up cheap or for trade with cash.... Deals can be made.

Biggest thing is get in good with a field. Offer to volunteer ref when you have the time. I reffed at a field where in return for reffing you got free entry, air, field fees and discounts on paint. Field owners are going to be your biggest helpers.

Learn to manage your finances and work smart.

Just from my personal interests, I learned enough about marker, car adn computer maintenance. From that alone I make enough to sustain myself.

But I also work at the school cafeteria and a small time sales shtick on the side.

That makes money as well.

Whenever you see something interesting, think of how you can make money off it and get to it. You'll be surprised at how much you can make.

I found that working at the paintball field usually earns you about minimum wage if not less not to mention you lose your entire weekends. Unless that is what you want to do I'd just get a good job and pay to play. You can expect to spend about a car payment per month on paintball and that is just to get somewhat good at it. The bottom line; paintball is very expensive. But hell what isn’t fun and not expensive now days. If you can’t get a good amount of money or sponsorship together you may not want to get in to paintball. Try Texas hold’em at your local pizza joint instead. It’s both fun and fills your belly. I also hear that Obama will pay for your paint if you vote for him... Just sayin...

Unfortunately if you are just starting to play it can be really expensive. There is a couple of thing you can do. Either practice with a hopper. But your best bet is to just bite the bullet and practice practice practice. If you can get good you can get a sponsor. Even a sponsor that pays half your paint really helps.

Im 19 and have 2 jobs one of which is reffing at my local paintball field. All the money I get from reffing goes into paintball. I make about $150 a weekend reffing. Plus since I work there I get discounts. Instead of $80 per case . Get it for $35. Which is great. The extra usually is for tournaments.

well pretty much if you have good strong central pieces of equipment (Mask, Loader, Tank, and marker) you should never have to upgrade them. The only costs you need to worry about is how much it is to play/Tournament fees. how to afford them...sell unwanted/unneeded stuff and/or get a job.

To sum up, Paintball will never be cheap in our lifetime, so you have to be able to make your money stretch in this sport. If you go to a field that offers an annual membership, GET IT. This will save TONS of money, and pays itself off extremely fast. Usually a membership entails; free entry, free air and discounted paint (that helps a lot). Paying $150 a year for free air, entry and discounted paint can heavily decrease the amount of money spent, and can allow you to get out to the field more often.

After you've done this for awhile, and figured out how to play the field proficiently, seek local and national sponsors. Getting local sponsors are far easier because well, they know you're looking to represent the community, and most local businesses need a tax write off and usually they will conform if it is something useful such as a local team. Having a small sum of money donated from several local stores and businesses can really dumb down the cost of the sport, especially when playing tournament play. Stress how you look to promote them, and progress their business. If you're an interesting person, make videos. This will increase your chances of acquiring national sponsorships, which cover a lot of gear.

Hope this monologue was useful, if you have any other questions on how to go about getting better, which fields aren't screwing you for your money and etc, just PM me. I hope this helps you have fun and play the sport more often!

I just work and save up and try not to spend what I dont really need to. Pumps seem a lot cheaper paint wise and its pretty fun.

If your field offers memberships get one. I save about 1000 bucks a year at my field by buying a membership.
