Permanent Gridding System - Suggestions?

My local field bought a new PSP bunker set and I want to set up a permanent gridding system so we can rapidly configure the bunkers to PSP spec. This is for use at an outdoor field with a grass playing surface. The idea is to leave permanent markers every x amount of feet on the sidelines, which we can use to stretch rope across to create a temporary grid. This raises the question of what markers to use that are easily visible, yet not a trip hazard for players. His idea was to put stakes through yellow plastic plates. Do any of you have better ideas? I'm sure there's an easier way.
