New LAW with Carbon Fiber Barrel

Here's my latest LAW. Interchangable Barrel clear barrel for close range and Carbon Fiber for long range. It's 4.3lbs total weight.

lol, Damn 500 yards at a 24 inches target.

I've only tested it at the Football field. The max range is about 120 yards with the CF barrel and 80 yards with the clear barrel. Even at that distance the nerf flew straight but we all know how those foam thingy have a mind of it's own when there's a real target. Not sure what the FPS is set at yet but operating pressure was at 85psi (normally 180-190fps at that pressure with my other LAWs). I'll know after labor day weekend since that'll be my first game with it.

I threaded the Fire Extinguisher with a 1/2" NPT tap. Once you empty it you cut the extinguisher fitting, drill, and tap it with 1/2" NPT tap.

That's the bennefit of using regular pipe parts. You dont have to try and find those funky thread paterned taps like for paintball threading.

Where did you get the carbon fiber tube???

Here is a link how to do that fire extinguisher body.

http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=3353230

They are LIGHTER than the same volume of PVC and rated 300 psi and the newer ones are rated over 400 psi. If you shoot one with a .22 it just splits and does NOT turn into schrapnel like PVC does. Your local fire extinguisher place had the DEAD ones that went flat that are non rechargable / disposable. Free or CHEAP! Have them save you one if they don't have one. They save the powder and reuse it and sell the air chamber for scrap alumimum or just dumpster than. Make sure they save the nozzle fitting for you...

They also make LOVELY 3 pound FLAME THROWERS so grab all they have.

Another link for the clear barrels. I used polycarbonate Mailing Tubes for a barrel. Just heated and flared the end. Stuck with 24" max length. But it worked. Still wouldn't survive a header with me landing on top of it but I can carry spare barrels.

http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=3353197

His pic looks like he might be using a much thicker wall than the mailing tube I used. I run a walking tank on a backpack frame so I was looking for a 2 pound weight reduction.

Hey, boom Master are you in Hawaii yet? I got the directions from BoomMaster on how to thread the Fire Extinguisher. Once you do a couple you'll be an expert at it.

The Clear tube is thicker than the mailing tube ones. It's 1/2 the thickness of a PVC pipe. I got my Carbon Fiber tube from a CF manufactor in China. They had two options for them one Carbon Fiber outside with Fiber Glass inner and the other is 100% Carbon Fiber. I'm testing both at this point to decide which is better.

OK, update got to play with it at the Viper Game in Dallas. It worked great. Took 1-3 of shoots to get the correct range and have a nerf fly straight to hit a tank over 60+ yards. Anything closer I was able to hit on the first shoot most of the time. I was testing two different type of launcher. This one and a Burst Disk one. One thing I would change right away is make this one a breech loading system.

The burst disk had a shorter range and can be used for a one time shoot. Great to sneak up to tanks with or take out helos. It's very short and lighter compare to this one.

Yep, Just sitting here overlooking Pearl Harbor in Oahu. Finnished another frustrating day of working. They know nothing about e mail ettiquette. Everyone hits reply all to have a conversation about a student that does not involve the REST of the 20 people on the team. It takes 1 to 1:30 to get through them all, figure out which ones actually require me to DO something. Today was 4 things out of 30 that I actually needed to interact with. I should have got that done in 30 minutes or less.

Thanks for listening to me whine....... I feel better now. All I have to do is remind myself that if this job was all Fun and Games, they would charge me admission to come there.... That is why they have to Pay me.

Played paintball for the first time since I got here-yesterday. At BELLOWS air force base. Bit of a high end crowd and not that many military. The let me play with my Rocket Launcher but only two rounds per 15 minute game of capture the flag or elimination. The entire day, not one game eliminated the other side NOR took the flag into the other base. Automatic Re Insertions except for the last 5 minutes was the reason.

Nice field though. Lots of bunkers and such. Whole area Shaded under big trees. I could wear my glasses under my mask without them fogging up. Low humidity. 15 mph breeze comming off the beach 100 yards away. $20 fee for all day air and includes LUNCH! Premium paint $60 / case.

having the air centered like that looks far more balanced
have you designed some kind of shoulder brace yet or some easy way to hold it?

Thanks, no I've not shot other stuff out of it.

Holding it is not a big issue I grab the air chamber like a foregrip which works well. Yes, it's better balanced with this disign.

I'm in the process of adding a handle with trigger guard on it. Once I'm done I'll post a photo of it. It'll allow me to fire it with one hand.

Our team engineer started shooting those giant marshmellows. He's actually got two fields to sign off on them as ammo...

OK, here it is with the Stock and Trigger Grip. Still working on the trigger grip but it's ready for field testing this weekend at Viper's event.

Yep, worth the work. I've built six LAWs so far and still having fun builting them and making them better. A lot cheaper than buying them. Haven't seen a Carbon Fiber LAW yet for sell.

Dont know. Only seen him use them twice, and that was a fall game and then one this month. He keps three or four of them in a paint pod...

In the hot weather, dont know how good it will work, but you can probably powder them flour or talc and keep them from sticking or getting sticky... Or maybe keep them in a small cooler...

I've heard of people shooting twinkies and hot dogs. But thats just plain old waisting good junk food there. Marshmellows I dont really like. Shoot all you want.
