You could get an ecu tune which could increase boost more, add and extra 40-50 horsepower or so. Though you'd be stuck permanently with 91-93 octane

I know, but I don't want to void the warranty. I have warranty until like 8/16, which is the main reason I bought the car. It will be paid off by then, and then I will be in a good position to get something new.

Understandable, but don't they make a piggy back ecu that you can just unplug when you take it into service?

No. Audi can see any flash. I doubt any flash on any car is truly undetectable.

Not a flash, but a separate piggy back I know my friend's 135i had a piggyback that they just unplugged and they fixed his car under warranty.

ECU records events which are out of operating specification.

I don't think they have that for the S4. I bet they could detect it anyway. Audi or BMW. If they cared enough, I think they could find it.

It's not about being serious, it's for diagnostic purposes. If stock boost is 15PSI and you're running 20PSI consistently the ECU will flag that as being a potential problem.

I'm not sure how seriously they take it. They have a program though that flags every tuned car when it is plugged in at the dealer. Will void your power train warranty. I can't really blame them. They stand behind the motor that they built, with the safety measure they left on it. If someone else eliminates those measures, its not really fair to ask Audi to continue backing the part.

Yeah but those stored values stay unless you reset it in which case it'd show up as fresh.

ECUs usually record histories. So you will see that while it is currently running 15psi it previously hit 20psi like a thousand times or however often it samples.

I think even if the battery runs dead it would still save most of the history? I mean if you unplug your PC all the files are still there when you turn it back on.

Yeah but the joke is modern ECU's utilize non-volatile RAM and thus you'd have to specifically reset it. Pulling the battery cable doesn't work, which is why they tell you to not do it.
