A few questions for the anno experts

I am currently in the process of having a local annodizer do my Smart Parts Freak in the Empire Axe Olive/Earth colors.

I was told by the annodizer that the barrel would be dipped in an acid bath to remove the old anno. Wouldn't this hurt the polished area of the barrel tip ?

If so would the newly anno'd tip need to be re-polished after ? Also the annodizer said one of his co-workers told him that the tip would need to be teflon coated to reduce ball breaks once the barrel is done, is this something that needs to be done or they trying to get me to buy something additional ?

If the tip is a .695 bore, the local paint runs approx .682/.684 the tip should be fine with just a polish job after, am I correct ?

The paint doesn't even touch the tip, tips run like .70 I think. So removing any "polish" and Teflon coating it would be unnecessary in my opinion

That is untrue.

The ball never travels perfectly straight though the tip. Its always going to drag an edge.

While a teflon coating or sealer might be beneficial it certainly isn't necessary.

When I do tips I like to run a flex hone through them after I strip.

Also is this a commercial anodizer? Most if not all of us use a caustic soda solution to strip (the opposite of acid)

Some of the commercial guys like to use hot chromic acid, which is said to not touch the aluminum substrate at all.

The reason we don't use it is because it is known to cause cancer...among other things, but thats the big red flag.

That is all nonsense. Ask any of the anodizers on here and they'll tell you they've done countless hundreds of barrels with no ill effects. Once stripped the inside can be easily polished with a fine rouge to a mirror-like finish before anodizing. The only issue with stripping a barrels are the bore because stripping it removes a few thousands of material so if you stripped say a .685 and then polished and anodized it the new bore would likely be in the .687 - .688 area Tis why for my projects I almost always buy raw polished and unanodized barrels/backs with the specific bore I'm shooting for.

The annodizer usually anno's car parts for NASCAR and the NHRA. Their main line of income is building racing engines, they do annodizing on the side. The guy has been trying to match the EARTH color for the last week, saying the OLIVE color is pretty basic and easily do able. I had the feeling that the guy was trying to get me to spend more money then the original price quote with the teflon service. I already told him I wouldn't pay for the polishing as the barrel interior is already polished. I may just go with the OLIVE and leave the tip black at this point.

Thanks for all the answers fellas
