Slight issue with Violent SL3 reg
Today I played with my 06 Dark Ego, with a Violent SL3 reg and I had to screw the velocity adjuster out all the way to achieve 280+ fps. Not too big of a deal since I was able to get up to 285 which is what my field allows, but i found it odd. It was a little inconsistent, but I'm still breaking it in and it wasnt the best paint. My main concern is why it had to be all the way out to achieve useable velocity? I was using both .693 and .685 Shaft4 backs with Valken Fate if that matters. Any positive feedback is greatly appreciated.

I'm considering getting my Cure3+ POOTY mod'd to increase the velocity and slightly increase efficiency at the same time.

Flip the reg seat in the SL3 over. QEVs can also cause velocity issues on the 06's.

I have hardly had the SL3 reg enough to warrant needing to flip the seat and my QEVs are fairly new. Only thing I can think of is my LPR piston seat is going out. I was able to get up to 285 and above, but it required me to back out the screw all the way. My LPR is about 1 and half to 2 turns in from flush with a dwell of 9. I think I'm just going to send my bolt to POOTY, since I'm wanting slightly better efficiency anyway.
Well I flipped my reg seat and checked my lpr piston seat which was fine, but I won't be able to see it over the chrono until I go play again. Probably going to send my bolt to POOTY next week.

Start with a fresh brand new brand name battery. Next, your LPR is set below stock and so is your dwell. When you set the LPR in from flush you have to up the dwell to compensate, or at least run it at stock. I'd return the dwell to 10 (stock) and the LPR to flush (also stock.) If you are still having issues at that point you may need to clean and relube the spool shaft in the noid. Check and make sure the air lines are clear of any grease. Clean the rammer and housing and oil appropriately. Make sure that the poppit is clean and dry. If all of that fails then you may be looking at the back half of the noid going out. A Pooty bolt may actually add to your issue as it is going to add more drag to the firing cycle.

Well I think it was my dwell, I had a fresh Energizer in it, and had went over everything before I played. I'll up my dwell to stock and see if that helps, thanks for the help, and do you think that the POOTY mod will really cause enough drag to cause a problem? In his video it increased the velocity by about 12 fps on average.

It will cause more drag. You are increasing the number of orings on a moving part. That will increase not only the drag but can increase breach wear as well. With more orings you have to do more maintenance. It can get you better efficiency because the breach will be better sealed during the firing portion of the cycle, but it does add to the maintenance frequency. Fix the issue you're having first and then decide if you want the mod.

That makes sense, but in his video it increased the velocity by about 12 fps on average so I think it would help my situation out. Also my Dark has a decent amount of breech wear as it is so I don't know if that will be a problem. Ya I will probably see if upping my dwell, flipping the reg seat over, and putting the LPR back to flush helped.

Before the SL3, what reg were you using and did you have low velocity with that?

Originally I had a 06 Star reg that shot craps and leaked so I slapped on an Empire reg (CP internals) that was just meant to get me by and was inconsistent as hell, and finally I got the Violent SL3 reg. I did not have low velocity before that, I'm almost certain it was a combination of low dwell with the LPR turned in.
I'll more then likely go out to the field next Saturday and post results afterwards.

The Violent series SL3 regs come with low pressure springs (for Geos) and med pressure springs (for Egos). Did you get the med pressure one?

Yes I'm aware of this, and I bought it new, which it actually comes with the mid pressure spring and you have to order the Geo spring.

Just checking.
Try flipping the reg seat. If you don't see improvement, change the 008 NBR70 internal oring in the reg adjuster top and the 016 NBR70 oring on the reg piston.

It's cool, I already flipped the reg seat, but won't be able to see it over a chrono until Saturday at the earliest. Also I haven't used it enough to need a new Oring unless it was bad to begin with. Also I looked at all the ORINGS and no tears or anything.

Well I finally played again yesterday and still had to have my reg backed all the way out to achieve proper velocity. Kinda stumped on this one.. I'm using a 06 Dark ego with violent Sl3, Cure3+, and shaft4 kit. Paint is Valken redemption and my dwell is 11.5 with pretty much stock settings otherwise. Doesn't make sense and yes I flipped the piston seat prior to playing. Maybe just need to grease my regs? I don't have any on hand, so I couldn't do it today. It was still consistent though. Also yes I tried using a new energizer battery.

I was using my .681 shaft4 back which was a very good fit, so that's definitely not it..
It's not entirely a big deal since I can still get up in the 280's, but I would just like to be able to get better efficiency and it shouldn't be like this since the reg is fairly new. I did notice that there is a very slight leak coming from my macroline, but I don't think it's enough to make a difference. I just need to cut the line down a bit so it fits better.

Also I forgot to add, that there was air coming out of the side hole on the SL3 while shooting. Is that normal?

Thanks that solved the leak issue, do you think that could have been the culprit behind my problem?

Most likely...
If not replace reg seat oring
