So what does it mean when my xtra goes on a full auto rampage again?

Hey folks. I have been out of the kinsman family for quite some time, but found my extra laying around and went to do some work with it. Unfortunately when I air up, turn the safety off, cock it and pull the trigger, it goes into the full auto rampage from hell. I do not want it to do this. How do I stop it
Also I am running a dye Hyper II if it helps.

Rotfl, this used to happen to me! The sear isn't catching, make sure to tighten the screws attaching the trigger frame, that was my problem. If not, your striker might be worn down.

or your pressure is way too low on your hyper reg. not enough pressure to fully recock.

Assuming its stock clean, rering, and lube. its true the seer isn't catching but could be due to something simple as drag from being dirty. examine the grip to be certain the seer is popping up as it should. broken or missing trigger springs can cause this. it happens.

Its clean. Re-lubed. Re-ringed. Not missing springs. The Hyper II it turned all the way up. Still going bananas :/ it has pretty light use and the sear looks like it is in pretty good shape :/

Thoughts?

No gauge on it, but when I turn it all the way out on my shocker it goes over 400fps

Two totally different marker operations so the velocity on the shocker doesnt mean **** for the spyder. Before you do ANYTHING else, try the spyder withOUT the reg.

Look at it like this, if the shocker runs at 300fps with 275psi & maxes out at 400fps with sub 500psi, 500psi isnt enough for a stock spyder on its best day. Stock parts, 500psi is possible. DO NOT try to go for the lowest PSI unless you have a complex about showing off.

Also, read up on the reg to find out the max output PSI. If its not 650+ dont bother putting it on the spyder unless you do some work to it.

Mmmm didnt' realize they need so much psi to operate on. I just figured i could save on air by cranking on the spring and then being able to lower in input pressure. I'll try regless tomorrow.

Spyders previous to the VS series tend to run best between 650 and 800psi input (mainly the reason why they came with an expansion chamber as opposed to an actual regulator). You could do some LP mods to it by drilling out the holes in the vertical adapter and drilling out the valve some. This should allow you to be able to get to a much lower pressure.

Any idea how big to make the hole 3/16? 1/4?

Just pulled it all apart to check. I drilled the the 3 holes in the VA out to a 3/16 and the valve (where the cupseal is and the top of the valve) out to a 5/16. I accidentally tested it on 800psi, and it was causing enough pressure to break balls in my hopper, pop open my pocket hopper, and recock my spyder (even after I disabled the blowback with jb weld).

No worries. I'm smart enough to wear a mask while testing out my markers. I now have a regulator for that particular spyder! Good luck with your drilling. Make sure not to drill all the way through.

I once drilled mine all the way through that was a pain in the neck, I ended up replacing the va.
