I've always had good experiences with my quantum gear. I've only had limited experience with okuma stuff, borrowed a rod from my buddy that had an okuma reel on it after he backlashed the **** out of my revo. I was so ill that morning, had just put brand new line on it and let him use it to throw a deep diver I had tied on and all but destroyed that ***** before he'd coasted it 5 times. Ended up just cutting off all the line later but the okuma reel he had was pretty nice, not quite as smooth as the revo and it didn't cast quite as far but for the price he paid I certainly wouldn't be complaining. I'm ready for Christmas to get here so I can start using injection molds for a few baits. I love my hand pours but it is hard to beat the speed and efficiency of using injection.

I managed to score some Sunline for 1/2 off, but other than that, I didn't really buy much fishing gear during the sales. I was going to buy a rifle from Dicks that was priced pretty well, but when I saw the line, I just walked out.

I've got some Okuma trolling rods for umbrella rigs and they are pretty sweet. I remember seeing a deal on their reels last year for stupid cheap, and I have regretted not jumping on it every time I think about it.

I have the STX or is it the SX? I can't remember off hand, but it cost around $150-160 if I remember correctly. It's an awesome reel though. Cast super far, extremely smooth both casting and on the retrieve, pretty nice drag system as well. I would highly recommend any of the evo's, I think my uncle has about 4 of the revo s series as well as a couple of the higher end models he loves them that much.

yea i was thinking about trading one of my Quantum Smoke PT's for a Revo STX 8.0:1 ratio one.

i reeeeeeally want an 8.0:1 speed reel and that will probably be my next buy. it would be really nice for fishing spooks and other top water

Mine is a lower gear for deep cranking, but I have a quantum smoke that is ridiculously fast that I use for top water, sometimes I flip with it as well.

i have a 6.6:1 and a 5.3:1 smoke, my 7.1 is an accurist. i wanted the 7.3:1 smoke but it was sold out when i got it on sale (i got mine for $150 as opposed to $220...woot.com ftw). the old style accurist is like 75 bucks now (probably less if you look around) and it is hands down the best "cheap" casting reel i have ever used

i just want to try an 8.0:1 because that is like face melting levels of fast.

i also have a high speed smoke spinning reel. it is pretty nice, super lite, but it can be sort of finicky. id rather have a stradic from shimano which is in that price range

I have the 7.3:1 smoke as well, I love that reel. With the exception of two set ups, all I throw are bait casters and my two spinning reels aren't top of the line because all I use them for are drop shot and shakey head. Every now and then the shakey head rod gets used when I downsize my top water plugs to where they aren't easily casted on bait casting gear.

I have the revo STX and WINCH. Been using them for 2 years now they are the GEN 1s and have treated me very well no issues whatsoever! Really want some of those gen 3s. When tacklewarehouse has there sales, that is the best time to buy them. Like the black friday sale they just had 20% OFF!!!! You could of gotten that 8.0 to 1 STX for 160$! (200$ reg.)

P.S. I have 3 of Abu's Veritas rods. Another legit product!

as for rods i pretty much only use st. croix. the new quantum rods are really nice and my okuma centerpin rod is awesome but i just love st. croix. i have tried the veritas rods before and they are very nice, i might consider one if i get a revo.

This past summer I fished out of a Bass Pro FS10 Kayak for about a month... Then returned it. Dont get me wrong I loved it but in the same token its kind of a "pain" to fish out of. Maybe because it was a "sit in" and I sat so low in it but you pretty much had to be facing the direction you wanted to fish. Spent alot of time getting my boat positioning right w/ an anchor troller. I like to cover alot of water and power fish so that wasn't really my thing. What kind of kayak you got?

P.S. I did love the fact that I could just throw it in my truck and fish anywhere though, that was awesome. You can pretty much fish anywhere. No lake boat fees or trailer launching and all that. I could just pick up and go.

i use a freedom hawk 14' kayak. like it, but its just bulky(VERY stable though). its heavy and wide. isnt the fastest in the world, but is stable enough to stand without the pontoons even out.

Hoping to pick up a Jackson Cuda with my tax refund this year

Yea not be able to stand in mine is what really turned me off. Those new smaller Hobie Pro anglers are pretty sick. I think they are 12'.

Ive got a 2 mojo bass rods (the spin and soft plastics specific) and they are probably the best bang for your buck at that price. the only thing i dont like is the soft plastics rod is just a little too stiff.

i think i might bite the bullet and get a GLoomis our a st. croix rage for my next set up. probably wont be getting anything new for a while (although i do need a nice medium-speed rig).

G Loomis is about all I use anymore. If you are going to get one, I would suggest staying away from the GL2's though and going ahead and trying to get at least the Mossy Back. IMO they are a much better rod for just a few dollars more. One of my favorite rods is a Mossy Back, but they don't make it anymore :-(

But, for some of the most versatile rods ever made, I think the 803 and 853 are hard to beat. They are pretty much the same action, but one is 6-8 and the other is 7-1.

I really want to try some of the JDM rods. I have a friend with a bunch of Megabass rods, and they are sweet. The only problem is the price, they hurt a little bit.

JDM's rule. i have only ever seen 1, probably because they are incredibly expensive. i tried a powell last year and absolutely hated that thing. i also got some heavy use out of a GLoomis bronseback this fall fishing for smallmouth in lake erie and that is a phenomenal rod. i will probably end up getting one of those. very responsive and has a ton of backbone for fighting hog smallies.

the other 2 i really would like to demo this year are something from kistler and something from denali

The Bronzebacks are really nice rods too, I forgot all about those. They do have a solid backbone for their rating and are killer for small mouth.

I've never used either Kistlers or Denali's but a friend of mine swears by the Denali's.

Just had a guide in NY contact me...he has the 11th off and saw my post on wanting to go up... Why must none of my friends like fishing???
Might have a backup plan...If i can somehow get my mom to convince my old man to take off work for a day, it will be his late bday/early xmas present. Was going to wait until spring(he likes warmer weather) but....

not sure what it is like a couple hours north but the rivers are super low here and that trout run has dried up. it has been slim pickings the the last 2 weeks.
