Why is Guantanamo Bay still open?

Wasn't Obama going to close that day one? What happened with that?

Did President Obama lie, or did he find a valid reason to keep the park open? Is it fair to say that Barack Obama, despite his socialist views and liberal leanings, has some of George W Bush in him as well?

And why did Obama bash Bush, only to expand the president's own powers under the defense authorization act, allowing him to arrest Americans at whim? Perhaps after the election and his time talking to George Bush as the president elect, changed his views? See the video below.

pretty simple, its easy to play armchair quarterback and promise things like getting us out of iraq and closing gitmo, but when you're actually on the field and have the info the current president did, your tune tends to change.

Obama is your run of the mill politician.

Not sure why it's still open. Hopefully it stays that way.

Obama made a lot of empty promises to get votes. Bottom line: it's still open because we need some place to put the people we are holding indefinitely without trial.

Maybe it was because of political correctness?

We have 13 bodies in the ground because of that...

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/07/19...ctness-report/

And it is weird since Obama brags about no "terrorist attacks" since he took over...

Guantanamo is just one of several prisons the U.S. uses to indefinitely detain and torture those suspected of "terrorism". It just happens to be the most known and that's it. Bondsteel in Kosovo, Salt Pit in Afghanistan, and countless other black sites the U.S. government has extorted the world into hosting....still hold inmates and are never in the press.

Fix the system that props up these sites and puts people in them. Otherwise we're going to stop hearing about them and our government will continue to kill and detain whoever it pleases. It's funny that anyone thinks of Obama as anything but Bush 3.0.

The last 20 years haven't been much more than shifting into a police state.

Illegal war in Lybia?

Expansion of executive powers?

Lack of transparency?

Cronyism?

Kill List?

Gitmo? Why feel sympathy for terrorists and war criminals? These people go out of their way to murder innocent people and American troops. Forget torture, execute those scumbags without a trial.

Bombing them in assistance of Nato isn't an illegal war.

Sure, it's been sliding that direction since the 80's.

See Above.

See above, except since the 70's.

I think you are a terrorist. Sucks to be you, because now your *** is going to be shoved in front of the firing squad.

Ohhh you don't think you are a terrorist? You think I am wrong? That suck's, since I suspect you of it you shouldn't deserve a chance to bring your case in front of a court. Ohhh well, bring it up with Allah after you are dead. You don't believe in Allah? Yeah, I don't believe you.

And on, and on, and on.

The "no terrorist attacks" thing, to me, is misleading. No we have no had any terrorist attacks, (have had a few attempts - the occupy people trying to blow up a bridge) but nothing on par with 9/11 here due to no effort to do so by any terrorist organization. They certainly attacked Britain after they attacked us, Spain as well. If someone wanted, the border of Mexico is still wide open. It will remain that way until people actively start bringing suitcase nukes across the border and blowing up cities.

We aren't bringing these people into these prisons at random, you know. It's safe to assume that nearly all of them are indeed guilty. The innocent:guilty ratio is Guantanamo is probably way lower than most American prisons I'd be willing to bet.

Torture is clearly a good method of obtaining information because if it wasn't, I don't think it would still be going on. Eventually they would put a halt to it if it consistently revealed inaccurate intel.

Innocent on what counts? For all we know they could have been collaborating with terrorists prior to the arrests.

We shouldn't assume that if released, they would just go back and continue living their daily lives instead of spilling out info to the people who want it.
