I can't wait to get them in my shop. My wife has been wanting to play against me for years but was afraid it would hurt too much. She now is looking forward to trying this.

Not really. Actually not at all. It's a way to get people a foot in the door, and also make it a bit more family friendly as not all parents feel like getting shot at 220-290 FPS.

In addition, games like this were popular far before paintball was back in the day. So it's just coming full circle.

One had already asked his Mom if they could go soon!

Only you know that. If you watch the video, the kids are clearly looking like they are running at something (people) while blasting away. Ive never seen people run during target practice. Any person who watches that video would beleive it is footage of game play.

In what way?

If anything, this is one of the ONLY ways to get the sport into the mainstream and get more families involved. High cost, and high pain factor deter people from entering. If this is low cost+low pain, its perfect.

QFT

Interestingly the packaging does not feature the word "paintball" anywhere on it. There will be rental versions made available to field owners who want to provide a place where people can experience SplatMaster. Look for display units featuring aggresively priced SplatMaster products at mass merchant retailers in the coming weeks.

Here is some official information from JT in the meantime:

Specifically designed for 9+, so it can be loaded, cocked, and fired safely by a 9+, but it is fun for all ages.

The JT SplatMasters shoot at 110-140 fps.

The JT SplatMaster Ammo was specifically designed to shoot start,

Shoots over 100+ feet, with marksman accuracy to 50 feet.

The JTSplatMaster.com will be live next week, but you can sign up for their e-mails now.

I'm buying this for my kids for sure. They always want to shoot my guns, now they can shoot their guns at each other. Once they are 10, they will already be pros!

Lol, come on man.. this is for kids younger than 10, and is surely priced as such. Im guessing you dont have kids, or younger family members, its such a cool idea.

The barrel has a built-apex that gives the ball back-spin making it really accurate. The "ammo" is really brittle and will break from a drop test at waist high, but I haven't had any breaks in the barrel. The orange shell is Ultra Evil formula and the fill is yellow.

That's awesome, but I have to admit I'm surprised that you can use fragile shelled paintballs in a marker that puts stresses on the ball as it's moving through the barrel (putting spins on it). But maybe the lower velocities and the inherent properties of smaller spheres being less fragile, will help in this aspect.

You're going to love these for your field. SplatMaster kid's birthday parties are going to be awesome. We've been letting younger groups get their private outings started with SplatMaster and let them move up to 68cal when they are ready. We have also begun having private SplatMaster games and include all the paint in the price since they go through so little. Again, I think this will be great for your field up in BC...

It might be a way to get their foot in the door of the sport, but thats where it will stop. Having these low-cost, low-pain alternatives don't provide a solution to people who are afraid of the cost and pain, just an alternative. If they truly don't like the cost and pain of real paintball, then they will never go all out and play actual paintball; all they will do is play with toys like these, so in the end it doesn't really seem to help the sport.

The fact of the matter is that these are basically paintball toys, and while I like the idea to an extent, I think JT (or any other company) would be better off not making things like this.
