Thinking I'll be getting the kids some of these along with some good face/eye protection.

The goggles and pistol clips are on Jt's website and the paint is definitely water based. After we were done with our video we shot up an old mask and the fill is very runny (definitely water based)

The fill on the JT paint I got was super thick, similar to Evil.

Looking at the posts I am amazed at how many adult paintballers are loving this product! I'm not sure JT intended to sell this to so many of this demographic.

I do agree that the shotgun is a lot of fun and I am glad other adults feel the same way.

I do however absolutely insist that no one use this product without a full face system. While I understand that JT is trying to keep the costs down by not including a full goggle system I think it is imperative that we as paintballers make sure every kid wears one when using this product.

Go JT! Excellent job.

Why bother pushing the safety aspect and then not having goggles be right there with the guns?

And where are the spare mags for the pistols?

These issues won't stop a purchase, but it's confusing to me as a parent and paintball player.
For those not familiar with major market retailers - they choose what to put in each store, not the manufacturer of the products.

The reason the goggles are separate from the SplatMasters are:
#1 - to keep costs down for consumers
#2 - to keep from paying for something unnecessary (if you already own goggles, why get more goggles?)
#3 - we will be coming out with new SplatMasters, so you can upgrade or change style, which goes back to #2 - repetitive purchases of something

The standard goggles are made for TARGET SHOOTING ONLY. All of our marketing, manuals, videos, etc. say ALWAYS USE FULL FACE MASK FOR PLAYER VS PLAYER. Safety is the #1 priority in all of this.

Coming from the paintball community side - it's being looked at as a Player vs Player product - where in it's basic nature it's a target shooting product. If you think about it from a target shooting sporting good - such as a bb gun, you wouldn't think twice about going out and shooting targets with probably no eye protection. We're starting kids off early with goggles always being worn to protect eyes when target shooting.

From paintball to SplatMaster of course it makes sense to use full face protection because you're thinking of shooting each other. If you look at it from target shooting to SplatMaster, eye protection makes sense. When you're ready to graduate up to player vs player - get full face protection, we will always preach that.

You just don't want to move to Jersey, Sal.

I was under a little impression (without basis, to be sure) that the SplatMaster line was a package deal. Something like "every WalMart is going to get a pair of pistols, shotguns, targets, and holsters, and X-amount of paint". That came straight from beneath the back of my pants, obviously.

I do like, and appreciate, that the goggles are a seperate item. My kids will be wearing my paintball goggles from the get-go shooting these, since they've grown up around "dad's guns". I don't know if it helps, neutral, or may hurt the concept, but when my 9-year old son saw these at WalMart, he liked everything he saw, and then he saw the target tree. His comment was "hey, we can be just like Top Shot with that!".

Glad to hear there will be more guns available in the future, too!

I think that is definitely the progression we are after. Target shooting should be the first thing kids learn. -Glad to see he was excited about it! Paintball is really the only sport where you shoot AT each other.

I'm also looking forward to the future products, can't wait to play with my nephews!

Picked up two shotguns and some ammo at Walmart in Lake Zurich, IL last night.

I shot one of the shotguns this morning. Pretty nice. Can't wait to try it out with my nephew and some of my friends kids to see how they like it.

I love the fact that's it's spring driven as opposed to air driven, makes going out in the backyard and playing a lot easier. You are only limited by how much paint you have.

Picked two shotguns and some paint as an impulse buy while in walmart for me and my 9 year old. Very fun little shooters that can be used in the backyard with no batteries or air needed. Sound low enough where no one would complain. Dead on accuracy around 3-1/2 to 4 car lengths. Great product .

Went to the "Splatmaster Experience" blow up place at MAO. Didn't expect much but they really are fun to play around with. I had my friend shoot me with it and they definitely don't hurt enough to turn a younger kid away from the sport. The paint breaks for the most part. Bounces a little on loose clothing but that's to be expected.

to Kee and JT for creating a market that caters to younger players.

Totally putting a pistol in my squeegee pocket at practice

I got to play with both the pistol and shotgun. I LOVE them.
Well, the shotgun more so than the pistol. The pistol was
kind of awkward, but the shotgun felt just right.

The price isn't to bad, and they seem study.
IF the internals are better than a nerf gun, we have a MAJOR
winner here!

We have our annual OSC pump gun tournament this weekend at our field. As an extra added feature we will select two All-Star teams to play the 1st ever 10 man Splatmaster tournament on Sunday!

I was disappointed as well. Not so much in availability but in how the product was displayed and cared for. Every gun box looked like it had been opened and tampered with. In fact, there were a couple of kids opening a box when I got there. The 500rd ammo seals were all punctured with broken paint inside. I'm going to check another location and hopefully won't find the same thing. I didn't feel comfortable buying from there given the condition of the on hand inventory.

They are starting to show up in pro-shops so check your local field to see if they have them or will be carrying them. Every time I go to my wal-mart there is only one canteen of paint and the occasional pistol, I have yet to see the goggles there. Not that it matters, as I was waiting to give my business to my local field before I would spend my money at wal-mart.
