I believe normal .50 paint breaks at roughly 5 Joules of energy.
Using this website:
http://www.pyramydair.com/article/Wh..._August_2003/5
Input weight of .50 ball: 1.3 grams or ~20 grains [to account for heavier balls]
Muzzle velocity wanted: 250 fps
Energy Required:
3.76 for 250 FPS
4.72 for 280 FPS
So, looks like you could hit close to 270 FPS at around 4.5 joules of energy.
The key would be to find a spring with that output energy that is the same OD and length of the stock spring.
**Disclaimer: I didn't check the websites math, it should be accurate but no guarantees.

These things are a BLAST! My son and I have played 3-4 times this week in the back yard. Paintball stings just a little when your shot close. But my 9 year old is super excited to use these! Best way to promote our sport is to get the young ones interested. ! Well done JT !!!

I have to admit, I'm also a little surprised to not see full face paintball masks on the packaging. I'm guessing these shoot at a fairly low velocity, but if that's the case, are the paintballs even breaking on impact?

I think these are very similar to the "blow guns" you see with .50 caliber paint for cheap on ebay etc...
Pretty sure the paint is manufactured by Nelson.

Just a few initial thoughts on these:
I don't like the idea that they look like toy versions of real guns. We all want to separate real guns from paintball guns, and I don't think this helps. I think it would be cool if they looked like toy versions of a general paintball gun, could possibly even have hoppers for these.
I don't like that they sell the half masks. I know they come with the full mask upgrade, but that is just an upgrade. People don't read instructions, so they buy gun that comes with half mask, that is all they're going to get.
I do like how they're making this a family friendly game. This is going to bring paintball into more households. My only concern is that a vast majority of the people who have picked these up are already paintballers.
I do like the cheapness, however I worry that anyone who might transfer from this to real paintball might be a little dissuaded by the price after getting used to this.

If they made a .68 cal that could shoot 250 fps, I'd probably pick one up.

I don't think the guns come with a mask at all.

That's what I thought too originally. But the shotgun I have did not come with any eye protection.

explain. The gun was targeted towards kids so it wouldnt hurt as much and would be cheaper to play. By making it .68 cal it makes it more expensive and 250 fps would make it hurt more.

you can only carry so many rounds with each gun, making each shot count, unlike speedball where it is an average of a hopper per elimination.
Plus the gun is only $30, I don't think you can get a new Brass Eagle for that...
PLUS no air/CO2.
PLUS it is designed for back yards, so no field fee.
Also, making it .68 would require more energy behind the ball to launch it at 250, and even then, you would have to get ultra evil in order for it to break at up to 250 fps. So at an average of $80/case, that makes it $20/500 so it is cheaper in that regard as well.

We paid $17.98 for 1000 rounds at the Walmart in Clovis Calif. paint is high quality with a water based fill. (I have stains on a retaining wall from oil based paints, and these DO NOT LEAVE STAINS!)
These are a ton of fun with the kids.
No eye protection is included. That is sold separately.

Highly doubt it is water based fill, the shell would disintegrate unless they have come up with new formula for the shell. Which seems highly unlikely seeing that they said the shell was the same as ultra evil.

FWIW, neither the pistol nor the shotgun comes with goggles. What baffles me is that the SplatMaster goggles were nowhere to be found on the shelves at the local WalMart today. I understand not including them in the package with the gun, keeps the costs down. I'm all for that. But to not have them on the shelves at all is confusing. Why bother pushing the safety aspect and then not having goggles be right there with the guns?
And where are the spare mags for the pistols?
These issues won't stop a purchase, but it's confusing to me as a parent and paintball player.
