Continue cut, or attempt "recomp"

Alright guys, I need some halp in making this decision. I'm simply going to list my stats, then list the pros/cons for each decision and hope you guys could offer some insight and your opinion into this.

Time Frame: ~5-6weeks (realize I won't make huge gains, but keep reading plx)

Stats:
Ht: 6ft
Wt: 172.3lbs
BF%: 11-12% (?)
Most Recent Pic

The plans:

Cut: Continue 6-day 1800 limit, refeed on leg day (fri) @ 2500-2600 calories. 175P, 40F, 485C

Recomp: Lifting days +20% Maintenance (3000), 175p, 40f, 485c; Off days 1800 with 225p, 85f, 30c

Pros and Cons

Cut Pros:
  • Leaner
  • less body weight to run with, do pulls ups and pushups and situps with. Overall less weight having to carry on marches
  • Cardio will happen 4xWeek at least, heavy exertion and such may keep me lean.

Cut Cons:
  • Might gain weight back with MREs coming up

__________________________________________________ _________

Recomp Pros:
  • Stronger, may help mitigate loss of strength from training.
  • Be able to carry more weight = no need to be lighter
  • Still be fairly lean
  • Bigger...cause I'm pretty small

Recomp Cons:
  • All size/strength gains have the possibility of being lost. I have 4 months of training, with almost no lifting, all based on cardio. Later on little food and little sleep. Following this - even less food/sleep.
  • Might be slower

Try changing your macros around a little. Look into a 50/20/30 diet.

With the possibility of all your size and strength gains being lost within 4 months as you said, I'd just continue the cut and see how shredded you can get.

I'm at a similar bf to you, and have considered starting a slow bulk because I'm sick of having my lifts stay pretty stagnant, but I figure Summer is here, I'm just going to try and drop my bf a little lower and maintain for a few months. Pretty much have my "beach body" already so why not enjoy it.

I think you'd look good if you cut a little more. Then after the summer get hyoooge.

I don't really see the point in getting any lower than 10% to be totally honest. I'd much rather walk around at 10% and have solid lifts than starve myself down to 6-7% for a "beach" body. Stupid. One thing if you are competing, another if it's for the beach.

Fixed macros; didn't realize the refeed was so off.

Cut

Yeah...I'm not gonna have a beach lol. I'm surrounded by dudes 24/7 here and my summer is going to be training followed by Ranger School (~1200 calories a day LULZ). So my cut isn't for the beach haha.

My opinion is sort of biased because I don't want to be shredded until I am at least 170 but I would suggest bulking to 180.

Just saiyan

Lets all cut down to 160lbs@7% so we look like twigs while wearing a t-shirt.

Herp, let's run 5-miles, walk around all day with 100+lbs and sprint at 200lbs

My ideal BW is going to be 160-175. Never will I ever go over 175 as my final functioning weight. Is that "skinn" - sure. But that's the ideal weight for performance for me.

Once I get to my permanent duty station, I'll probably do a slow/clean bulk up to 175, cut, bulk, etc trying to get a lean 175 as much as possible.

In short:

To be honest I really don't think you can look that big at 6 foot 175 without a ridiculously low body fat, and wouldn't that be detrimental when going on long marches and any other intense. prolonged physical activity?

No matter how "shredded" you are at 175lbs, you will still look tiny in clothes

I look fine, and I'm ok with that. And no it wouldn't be detrimental. We're not talking 5-6% BF here guys...

Disregard shirt size. Acquire ranger tab.

This might actually be a really good idea depending how much time you have before ranger school.

I'd rather look like a "twig" with a shirt on and have a low bf/look good naked during the summer than have my t-shirts fit tight and have some average fatty physique.

IMO looking good 99% of the time is greater than 1% of the time

I get that logic and see where you're coming from, but I disagree. Preference I guess
