Painting Carbon Fiber barrels

I was thinking of painting a few deadlywind barrels to match some of my markers. I really want to make a light blue one, and airbursh a matching cobra logo on the barrel for my cobra a1 fly.

Any tips on getting the paint to hold on the high wear areas such as the tip?

I know that I'll be sanding the barrel down, and wiping it clean to prep, but what about clear coat that will stand up to the abuse? should I be looking at some clear resins?

You're going to take the clear coat right off the carbon fiber and expose the fibers more then likely with sanding. Not worth doing if you ask me.

I'll be lightly sanding, nothing serious. 1000+ grit sandpaper.

once I do that, the paint will have something to adhere to, as will the replacement clear coat. No damage should be done.

DW barrels don't have a clear coat on them, and you'll want to use something more abrasive than 1000grit. I usually use a 300-400 to prep carbon. Just make sure to clean the barrel with some acetone or similar after sanding. Prime then paint.

Sand it. It gives the paint more surface area to adhere too, which will help it last longer.

^ 100% right!!! sand it just enough to give it a surface the paint will adhere to, idk what kinda paint you plan on useing but i KNOW that automotive paint and clear coat WILL stick to CF...but idk if there is a better/more durable alternative
