I was hoping for an alternative powder source (possibly soy or pea protein). Preferably something other than milk based as is whey

Soy or beef protein powder would suffice.

I use the Carnivore beef protein. The fruit punch tastes good. The only bad thing is it foams up a lot; I get a lot less bloated though.

Right now if I need it I just drink a cup of coffee before I go lift, otherwise that C4 stuff seems to work well with people. I used it a couple months ago and I liked it. I would recommend that.

my apologies. i was under the assumption that you were using 'whey' as a general term for powdered protein.

Might jump on the beef isolate bandwagon, still have around 30lbs of whey to use though.

Now you got me thinking about making some jerky, how long will it last if I use 90/10 beef? Would refrigerating it make it last even longer? I know a leaner beef+salt would make it last longer. It would be awesome if it lasted a few weeks.
|
sorry, I never answered this!
I dump a packet of "jerky cure" in each # of beef before dehydrating, which is basically a tbsp of sea salt.
I honestly don't know how long it could last, since I cook about 3# of beef each week and eat it over the course of 5 days(comes out to 24-25oz dehydrated). I use 96/4 from trader joe's. But I would be really, really surprised if it last less than 3 months. Maybe once I invest in some extra trays and cook 6# at a time I'll find out.
Refrigeration is supposed to make it last longer too, but again I haven't tested it yet.

This might be a dumb question but does it change its macros or does it just mean a half pound of jerky equals a pound of it raw or whatever the ratio might be.

Pretty much just the straight ratio, at least with the 96/4 I lose it doesn't lose any fat.

The best jerky can be made from marinated flank steak strips.
IE, the most healthy steak known to man kind.

so i got a light lift in tonight, then i had high bar (gymnastics) for pole vault and tomorrow i max on bench.. i am quite hyped
im pushin 160 im 16 and 5'11. havent hit my big growth spurt according to my dad. he hit his late. so i have hope and with football i could use 4 more inches. but anyways, i eat 3-4 eggs for breakfast with a glass of OJ and some toast, i drink 100% whey with meals or meal subsitutes, and before bed. i have C4 for pre workout (upgrading to a higher stimulant after i finish it) and i drink Carnivore beef isotate for post (trying aftershock when i finish it as well) i left 6 days a week sometimes 7 for cardio. so i feel like im doing the right things.
