NorCal NCPA??

There are a TON of colleges in Northern Cali... even more high schools... Why is there such a lack of NCPA presence out here? Looks like there's some interest at SFSU to start a team, but maybe we're going about it wrong.

I'm thinking that if we can get people to start paintball clubs, it'll get people in the door easier... once they're proficient enough to compete, then go for NCPA. This is something that the NorCal paintball community as a whole can help contribute to, simply by helping new players learn the ropes. Growing the Bay Area/NorCal paintball community has to start somewhere... Just a brainstorm that came to mind.. Your thoughts?

PS... trolls need not post... I want CONSTRUCTIVE criticism to this idea. Negativity ain't gonna help this sport bounce back.

Best of luck to you guys! I'd like to try and grow the sport of paintball in colleges in the Bay Area, hopefully resulting in the formation of future NCPA teams... If we get enough clubs working together, maybe we can benefit from bulk orders on paint/gear and help the local paintball community.

As a Sac State student, I would love to see a team that could represent this school and Northern California. I have talked to a couple people who have tried to do this in the past, but it's actually pretty difficult to be able to use the school name. There are fees that the club must pay before doing so, and as college students/paintballers, I'm sure you guys know money can be tight. It sucks because all we want to do is show support for the school.

Commitment and finances are our biggest issue at SCU.

Yup, as a university team here at UNR we just got the rights to the schools name this year.

This too, its hard to play national events when you still are paying for college and whatnot.

Do you need the school's consent to use the school's name? If you aren't an official club, then you shouldn't have any problems... But it wouldn't be official

yeah, I played in the highschool 3man last year.. Pretty much, If you win the regional event, you will be reimbursed (don't know how to spell that) at the NCPA national event in Florida... From what I understood, You would be provided with paint and entry, all you had to pay for was travel, food, and hotel expenses... We ended up losing in the regional tourney

The NCPA requires you to be tied to the school officially to be eligible for competition. They have kinda strict regulations that outline who can and can't play in their divisions and stuff like that. It's really well organized as a collegiate sports league, but it takes some work to be able to participate.

Yeah, i respect the fact that they want to integrate paintball into collegiate athletics... I feel that if you have the right amount of support from teammates/students and the paintball community... It would be alot easier to get the support from school admin... Just like any other collegiate sport, you have to gain the support from the students before you just go straight to the school administration...

What we did was just get a team composed of people from our school and then after a year we became an official school club. It takes time.

But one of my main questions is: Is there a way to become official faster? Or does it just depend on the school?

Depends on the school. A lot of schools are reluctant to have their name associated with paintball. So it depends.

What we need is an outline on how to get a paintball club started at a school, then go from there. Any insights from captains/club presidents would be greatly appreciated. I would imagine starting a club would be the logical step... One of the biggest issues with associating with paintball is the liability/safety concern associated with it. I'd imagine that showing a good track record would help immensely in getting a school's blessing to use the school name at a paintball event.

If you have any questions I would be more than willing to help. My coach set up the paintball club at Santa Clara University and it has existed for 5-6 years now. Feel free to PM me and I will try to do anything I can to help get you guys started.

Some schools have "paintball clubs" but the idea of an x-ball team is present in only... Santa Clara. I used to play for SCU Broncos before transferring to University of the Pacific and I found that even if the school has a paintball team, the players are not dedicated enough and expect everything handed to them on a platter. The president of Pacific's paintball team is a doucher who has literally gone out once in the last 3 years to play, yet his facebook profile picture is him posing in paintball gear, and still refuses to give up his spot as president, making it virtually impossible to get an NCPA caliber team going.
