Coming Back

Hello,

Let me introduce myself. My name is Eric and I've been using this forum recently in my search for a new marker. The last time that I played the sport was about 15 years ago, but I was heavily involved, operating a field here in Norman Ok. After some travel time around the country I am back home and looking to pick the sport back up.

Needless to say, I'm out of date on marker technology. I'm looking through the used listings and seeing some great pricing on ego tens and dm's. Is there a reason that so many people are selling ego 10s for 500 - 600? Do these markers degrade quickly? Should I be leery of such prices or look at this as simply a great deal on a stellar marker? The same question goes for the dm9,10,11,12.

Would any of you recommend a different marker? I'm not in this for a dp, axe, mini, or any other budget marker. I want to purchase the best, at a great price, and I believe that I have found a great place for doing that. My only issue is choosing the best marker for my needs. Primarily woods ball and tactical play.

Lastly, ego vs geo, I live in a climate in which we experience many different types of weather, and often. Would I be better off with the ego because it is a poppit? Or are the spool guns okay as well?

A dP wouldn't be that bad, also the PE Etha would be a good gun for you too runs about 300 or so bucks look it up, if not then go to your standard woods gun tippmanns

Just pick up a used etek 3/axe/PM.... unless you plan to really get into the sport then i'd say look at a DM or Ego.

For DM's, i'd go with a 9/10. There were significant changes after the 8's. The 9/10/11/12 all shoot relatively the same. I have a DM10 and couldnt be happier with it. As for Ego's, look for either a 10 or 11.

Since its been a while for you, keep in mind theres two main types of guns, a spool and a poppet. The DMs are spools. Ego's are poppets.
DM's will shoot smoother and quieter but have less efficiency.
Ego's are a little louder (pop sound), have a little more kick, but are more efficient on air. They are also a little less maintenance than a DM, but honestly, i find a lot of people make a DM out to be a lot worse than it is... It takes me all of 5 minutes to grease the bolt on my DM, and i do it ever 3 or so cases.

There are many more guns out there as well, so i'd keep reading and figuring out what exactly you want out of your gun.

Also, everyone wants the nicest gun on the market... but before you go saying that, i'd really take a look at some of the nicer mid-levels. That way if you only make it out to a field a handlful times a year, you dont have a ton invested into the sport. Truly, to the weekend warrior that hits up the woods most often, an Etek 3 will treat you quite well.

see my thread for a dm9. IMO you would want a spoolie if your doing tactical stuff. Goodluck buying

I just picked up a etek 3 for crazy cheap, really it does like 95 percent of what a ego does and uses alot of the same parts

for less than 300$ there a great marker and are fairly bulletproof from what I understand

Everyone is posting on what would be a great budget marker. He said a stellar marker for a good price, not less than $500. I am sure he would not have a problem spending $750-$1,000 for a quality used marker. OP please correct me if I am wrong. What would you like for your budget to be?

Picking the best hi-end marker for you involves many different factors. I.e. what is your experience level maintaining the different types of markers, what look do you like, do you have any brand loyalties, are you the type of person who looks forward to upgrading/customising an already stellar piece of engineering?
If you answer these questions in this thread I am sure the nation will point you in the right direction.

Fyi, I shoot a 2k12 G6R as my primary and a fully upped Ego9 as my back up. These are my electros after I finished building my dream A5 and TPX woodsball combo.

Hope this helps you get your answers and as said before "Welcome Back!"

can't really go wrong with almost any Planet eclipse or Dye marker and they really hold their value. If you know anyone with either brand of gun see if they'll let you shoot it and see whats more comfortable for you than make your decision.

Dye doesn't hold their value. Actually one of the worst resale values. Great for the OP if buying one though.

People sell Ego's and DM's so fast because they lose resale value so quickly. I dont know your budget but I just recently picked up a planet eclipse ETHA because I needed a good all weather gun that I can beat the hell out of. I found this marker to be a well rounded kiling machine and have no complaints at all.

The Etha is a good marker and I love PE's... But a buddy just picked up an Axe and man is the marker nice! It has a good sound signature, smooth shot, great ergos (to me atleast) and the hybrid spooly gives you the best of both worlds.
By far it is the best mid range marker I've shot.

If you are buying new within the $400-$600 the Axe probably is the best marker available, however, for that price you can get a much nicer and higher-end marker that is a year or two old. That is what I would do.

He most certainly will be looking back. He'll be looking back at the fill station often since the efficiency on those suck.

To the OP, I would recommend the Ego10. Reason being is reliability. Not only is the marker a solid workhorse but you will get steady performance through the various types of weather you see in OK. Spools can sometimes get a bit finicky in cold climates. The Ego10 will also require the least amount of maintenance.
However if the money isn't too big of an issue for you I would even suggest a used Ego11.

As for why markers are so inexpensive in the sale forums, 2 words......Gun Whoring. Many of those players don't keep a marker for than a month or two. Read through threads enough and you will start to notice people saying things like, "The _____ is a great marker. I've owned (past tense) 5 of them". Now why would one person have owned 5 of the same marker unless they are constantly buying and selling and buying and selling? Gun whoring!
