Thinking out loud here: If you anodized the gun, die it the color you want(but didn't seal it), the use the laser to esentially just etch out the dye in certain areas and then re dye it and seal it off.

It is possible to anodize something twice...I've done it (many times)! Looks to me like the HH luxe was anodized, lazered and then anodized again! All you would have to do is find a good spot to make connection, or break through ano to make the connection. Either way, the existing anodize would be unaffected! Just my two cents

Do you have pics of your work? Hopefully this becomes a more common practice

This is the only pick that I have on my photobucket of a double anodize...I know it's not what we're talking about here but it does show that things can be anodized over anodize without damaging the first layer...

It's just a little pocket knife I did for my girl a few years back

That's not sharpie. It's the dual anodizing that people are currently discussing. Apply this to lasering.

I bet the Anodize it and then before the laser engraving, they coat the entire gun with some product that won't Anodize again. Then the laser etches the anno and leaves the bare metal. They then Anodize the gun again and the color only sticks to the area that was laser etched.

pretty sure that's exactly how it's done. Use a low wattage laser to burn out the pigment, and re-dye.

Kyllan and I actually tried that one. It didn't work well. It might work for less light fast colors, but for something like black it flat didn't work. Plus trying to keep the film viable for that long proved to be very hard.

I will say that one person in this thread is mostly correct in how I did it.

In regards to the first gun in this thread. Look at all the areas that are pink, now look at all the other colors on the gun. To me it looks like this could be done as follows: and I know nada about anodizing so I could be way off

* Anodize the gun with a multicolor fade and do not seal it
* Laser Engrave it how you want (this area will be white and not as smooth)
* Now Dye the whole gun ( Pink ) or whatever lighter color you want.
* The Lasered White areas will soak up the Dye but not the anodized area
* Seal the gun and there you have it.

What I am not sure of is the sealing part, Can you seal it, laser it, dye it, then reseal it ? If you don't seal it before the dye process will the anodized area soak up the dye ?

HA. 2Slow4me is Tonsixers Pump Faction. He's out of Canada and does anno and custom work. No chance in hell it's anything but a high quality anno.

To all of you guys. My best guess is its similar to graphic anodizing. However, I don't know the technicalities.

Best of luck. Anodizing and lasering are very secretive businesses once you get down to certain finishes, effects and other specifics.
