Advanced statistics make breaking down Crosby vs Stamkos much easier. We can just look at their Corsi and Fenwick numbers and truly tell who is better.. so lets do that.
I took only 5v5 even strength as thats really the easiest way to separate the two fairly.
First we look at GF20, which is goals per every 20 mins of ice-time:
Crosby the obvious winner, scoring over 2 goals per 20 as opposed to Stamkos' 1.1.
However, when we adjust for zone starts, we get this:
Meaning that Crosby scores nearly twice the amount of goals per 20 minutes of ice-time than Stamkos.
Next, we look at the opposite, GA20, which is goals against per 20 minutes of ice time.
These stats are pretty close, however once we adjust for zone starts, we see that Crosby actually allows fewer goals against while Stamkos allows more.
Finally, we'll look at the Goals For Percentage, which is Goals For / (Goals For + Goals Against).
Adjusted for Zone Starts:
That stat is the most telling. Crosby's GF% is 72.5%, while Stamkos' is a mere 57.3%.
There are plenty more stats that I could throw out but none really benefit Stamkos. He's a great player but Crosby is a cut above.
edit: I also have my WC tickets. I'm sure its almost sold out already.
