If the verification testing proves what they found is the boson, cool. It provides creedence to the standard model which signifies at the very least that we have some idea what's going on. Cool I guess.
A Higgs boson walks into a church
"We don't allow Higgs bosons in here!" shouts the priest.
"But without me, how can you have mass?" asks the particle.
I'm sorry. That was terrible. This isn't:
Cool discovery if confirmed. I think I saw somewhere that it's not behaving quite as predicted, meaning there's much more to learn.
Exciting times indeed, and it was cool to see Dr. Higgs at the first big step in confirming his work was right.
Now if we could get out that they call it the "God particle" because "Goddamn Particle" was deemed too abrasive by a publisher we may stymie the flood of ignorance surrounding this discovery.
This isnt actually a religion and philosophy section. Few here even want to talk about religion or philosophy. You aren't allowed to talk about religion, even in a theoretical sense, without the local mob coming after you.

The issue being this holds no philosophical or religious weight.
Depends on how you interpret the discovery. The Higgs Boson imparts mass into particles which slows down the speed of said particles and allows structure to be formed and us to exist.
Validation of Electroweak symmetry breaking, the fruition of a career, justification of billions of dollars, the start to understanding mass, highlighting the importance of government funding for science.
