I'm talking about everything there, cam sprockets, the side walls of the motor, the cam shaft bolts, ect.

The saab's cam shafts do have a dark coating but it's not that black.

that is what it should look like (not my car, yes it's a n/a)

At least I can clean it out now and keep everything going better when I put it back together...

I still haven't been able to pull the head. I'm totally lost on where to start pulling **** from on the intake side.

I kinda wish you lived closer so I could help / learn how to take the head off. I did a preventative head retorque and head bolt swap on my cars since I was adding nearly 2x the boost. Also, T5 motors are a bit easier to take apart.

I've got the valve cover off, chain tensioner off, chain removed from the cam sprockets, coolant related stuff and exhaust all off/loose. Basically the front and sides are clear for the head to come off, but the back side has too much stuff everywhere. So many vacuum hoses and electrical connectors that I don't know where to start. Probably going to get started with the fuel rail and some of the electrical stuff today.

Never again. I know a guy whose shop gets a ton of them. I don't know how he does it.

I will never buy another Saab unless I'm in a position where I can afford to pay someone else to fix it. But at the same time, I would have a hard time letting this car go.

Talking to me? If so, good luck with that, I got it for half of its blue book value at the time...

Way ahead of you, man. Every bolt removed has been bagged and tagged, all removed lines have been labelled... Last thing I want is to not know where something goes later on. Just tried to get the fuel rail off so I could pull the intake seeing that that's all that's stopping me from pulling the head, but apparently that ain't gonna be easy either. There are some hard plastic lines (vacuum?) that I can't get off and don't want to slice into to remove.

Yeah, he's got a c900 turbo vert IIRC. Would be a pretty cool DD, weird to work on though. Engines are longitudinal but they're FWD

Since most of this page is about saabs.

Ive had it for 5 1/2 years, 130k on it now, still love it. Open intake, forge dump valve, painted the grill black. Had bigger plans for it but they never happened.

And they are in backwards.... they don't torque steer nearly as bad as our cars do and have better weight distribution. You could do a clutch change in 30 min but serpentine belt in 2+ hours if you're not sure what you're doing.

I'd still buy a 1999 9-3 or a decent shape saab 99 and swap a newer motor in it.

Fun little car, not so much as a DD though as it drives differently every day haha. It loves warm 90+degree days but once the temp drops below 65ish it starts having all sorts of problems. It handles really well in the snow though

Trying to find an older 4.0 jeep or smaller size truck for the winter. The saab is spotless underneath and i don't even want to have to worry about washing the underside of all the salt every week

edit: may as well put a picture in
