I actually like Layer Cake's Shiraz, for the price its hard to beat. Ravenwood's Shiraz is good as well.

For a desert wine we usually go with Fetzer's gewurztraminer (don't even ask me how you pronounce that) just watch out because it is super sweet (think of adding sugar to a Reisling and putting it in a bottle and you get this stuff. And to indulge my White trashness a good white zin goes a longway.

I'm not much of a fan of dessert wines, but I do love some port.

moscato is sickly sweet not even worth it when you look at the alcohol content

I'm a huge ****ing fan of rieslings considering I live on the rein in Germany, many of the best are from the surrounding area. I'm working on getting out of going to WLC in august because it would be during a huge wine fest here. hundreds of stands from all over europe with every type of wine imaginable. it gets expensive but it's like nothing you can experience in the states.

love me some wine

eiswein is some of my favorite but the good stuff is super expensive. it's basically wine made from frozen, handpicked grapes from the first frost of the year. it's super sweet but extremely tart and crisp. I stayed in an apartment above a famous wine shop last fall and the owner gave me a glass from a half bottle that was over 200 euro.

cheap **** gets you just as drunk tho

I see you had a bottle from Ferrari Carrano there too. I had a case of their pinot noir gifted to me by my neighbor last summer, quite choice. Certainly one of the better Sonoma wines in that price range.

You are more than welcome to stay, and talk about wine.

I have to make a confession, I purchase all of my wine from wine woot. I have yet to be let down, and it also makes for GREAT gifts. Shipping is dirt cheap, as well.

Are you near Brietling/Mosel/Zell at all?

That entire tri-town area is basically 50% river, 50% vineyard. Sat down at an 800 year old Weingut and talked with the old owners for an hour, while drinking Riesling...and looking at the vineyard it came from.

Mad jelly of where you live

You going to try and land a german wife?

I live in Wiesbaden if you know where that is.

Have tons of nice pics taken from ontop of castles of the surrounding vinyards, couldn't think of a more awesome place to be stationed for a few years. I can walk out the back gate here 100 meters from my barracks and in another 50 meters be at a walled farm courtyard where there is a fancy little resturant, a bakery, a butcher shop and a store that sells organic produce from the surrounding fields as well as a ****load of local wine and beer.

I't takes all of 7 mins to walk to the butcher shop, buy some rabbit and duck kabob sticks with fresh local veggies on them and walk back to the B's to throw them on a grill, wine bottle in hand.

As for a german wife, the girls here are very chill but with clearances it's a hastle. Some guys it's a smooth ordeal, some a nightmare.

Yeah, my family way back when came from Wiesbaden apparently. Drove through there as well.

Zell/Briedel is about an hour West of there by car, taking the train would probably be even quicker.

Mad jelly, I loved living in Germany a ton.

I want to live in a place where I can walk to a butcher shop, bakery, and bar......

Let's talk red wines.... I once had a Clos du Bois (sp?) Cab Sav that I really enjoyed. I really want to try a good pinot noir when I get back.

I wouldn't dream of being ballsy enough to recommend to you some wines, I usually take cues from my close friend. His family owned a vineyard for a while.
