2012 was my first D Day event and the culmination of 4 years
of planning and savings on my part. I come from Malaysia, 13
hours time difference from Oklahoma, and the travel to Wyandotte,
OK, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia would involve transits in
Singapore, Moscow and Houston totalling some 27 hours,
followed by the 1.5 hrs drive to Wyandotte from Tulsa.
That I did take this journey was because of the love of paintball
and the desire to play at the biggest paintball event in the world,
that I'm planning to make this a regular annual event for me is
due to the fellowship that is the CEF.
There has been much write up on how the CEF trains its members,
on how it competes in the field, on the ethos that its built around,
on its unique Maroon jersey. But for the first timer at D Day, the
CEF offers something more, a guarantee that you will have the
most awesome, fun time during D-Day. The vets makes sure that
players have the right gear, the right coaching, the right support
to play and enjoy one of the longest, intense, paintball game in
the world.
I arrived to OK D Day late on Friday evening before the big game,
with my good friend from Malaysia, Fiza Saad. My gear was
incomplete as the airline lost the luggage that had my vest, pod
carriers, pods etc. We had no markers, all i had was my pants,
and water bladder. Coming to camp, met Sir Ray, my unit CO Greg,
Caleb and a few others and the moment they heard of our lack of
gear, they promised to help us out. Sure enough, Saturday morning
saw we had gears lent from 'Warcry' and 'Nichole' and the day turned
out to be truly awesome! Being utter newbies, we were at a lost
at whats going on.. but there was always a Maroon goon nearby
to show us the way.
Join the CEF, its a lifechanging experience... and a whole lotta fun too!!

It appears that the Germans have taken a tip from the CEF and
begun creating their own recruiting videos...

2.
I'm glad to see the Germans finally getting sderious about recruiting.

The 899th Blackcats dedicated to killing enemy armor.
Here's a boost from a 899th player who'd like to have
you join him.
Tanks do not simply roll by the black cats. AFAIK no tank
has past a Blackcat unkilled in two years! The group is really
tight and it makes a huge difference on the outcome of the
Big Game on Saturday.
We welcome all willing to challenge themselves and see one
of the things that makes DDAY an amazing game--Tank-AT
interactions. (In our case, cleaning up tanks all over the field!)
You'll meet a ton of awesome people, including some of which
who "don't afraid of anything." Such as one of our commands
who runs across roads in front of tanks and Anti-Tank gunners
who lay 2 feet from enemy infantry undetected until a tank rolls
by and still makes the kill.
Want to learn more about this specialize Allied unit, then head
on over to the D-Day forum http://www.ddaypark.com and check
out their recruiting thread for more details and answers to your
questions.
Sincerely,

Ultimately when it comes to being Airborne I want to have
the most exciting “Airborne” experience. Here are a few of
my positive experiences that I have every single year at
Oklahoma D-Day.
I love rolling out in the busses packed to the brim with my
fellow troopers. Every bump, every tree branch and every
pothole that shakes the bus and everyone on it which starts
the morning off right for me thinking about German flak
cannons hitting us. Then jumping off the bus one at a time
makes me think of the guys jumping out of the C-47. That
is a positive “Airborne” experience.
Every year at game on we move out to our objectives, being
as quite as possible, taking the least direct route to avoid
detection. Sometimes we run into an ambush waiting for us,
sometimes we walk right onto the objective with no resistance
and sometimes it is a great fight. That is a positive “Airborne”
experience.
The 82nd Airborne divides into Regiments that historically
match the Regiments used during DDay in World War 2. We
have our flags, our distinct Regiment markings and every troop
bonds closely with and wants to fight alongside their Regiment.
What is great is around noon, when many people break for lunch
in the Dead Zone, there is still a lot of Airborne on the field and
Regiments begin to mix together and work and fight side by side.
Hearing war stories of how “a couple guys from our Regiment
and their Regiment worked together and took ‘that’ objective,”
is a positive “Airborne” experience.
Knowing that the 82nd Airborne doesn’t have an assigned objective
to hold the entire day, and knowing that we are a mobile unit that
is used to assault and capture objectives, and knowing that I can
give a call and in 5 minutes the whole division, no matter where
they are on the field, can move out, locked and loaded to a new
objective is a positive “Airborne” experience.
My team and I are planning on playing in the event in 2013. We need advice before registering on what team is the best to join. we may have more members by then as well and will be playing in Blackhawk down as well.http://www.facebook.com/?ref=hp#!/gr...5571881221367/
Thanks for the heads up. I see you've got 9 players so far
and that you're possibly interested in the 101st PF? Hope
you won't mind that I've alerted some of our various units
about your interest? In the mean time feel free to either
drop me a note or give my office a call so I can cover any
questions you might have.
Sincerely,

Here's a couple tips for those of you who are planning to
attend D-Day next year for the first time.
Tip one, join up and sign up as soon as possible. The sooner
you join, the sooner you'll be in contact with the staff who
command that unit and the sooner you'll be invited to join
in on what they're planning to do.
Tip two, try and show up as early as possible. The sooner
you arrive the more time you'll have to spend getting to
know the rest of the members of your unit and the more
time you'll have to take part in the daily mini-scenarios
and TOC events, night game, 'O Course,' etc..
Sincerely,

(All proceeds go to renting the state of the art AFI Silver Theatre)
If you have yet to purchase your tickets please get them online as soon as possible. Though we do plan to sell tickets at the door, we cannot guarantee their availability the day of. And if you have said you can't make it, we will miss you. Do you know of anyone who would be interested? Please help us spread the word.
As many of you know we (Doug Gritzmacher and Mike DeChant) have been creating the documentary feature film "Soldiers of Paint" over the last few years and guess what? It's done! And we want you to be a part of the advance screening.
When: 7:30pm, Tuesday, July 24, 2012
Where: AFI Silver Theatre, Silver Spring. Directions and parking.
Tickets: $9.00. Purchase online.
"Soldiers of Paint" follows a dramatic battle involving 5,000 people who re-stage the Invasion of Normandy, or D-Day, in Oklahoma. Instead of bullets they use paint and it's any man's game, which means the Germans could win! And these guys are serious. The spend all year preparing their battle strategies (including finding ways to spy on each other) and on game day they come ready to fight with full-size tanks, airplanes, and bazookas. The battle takes place each year on a 700-acre piece of land owned by Dewayne Convirs, who takes on this endeavor as a tribute to his grandfather and, ultimately, in support of our veterans. Sound interesting? Come join us and see for yourself and in the process support DC's independent filmmaking community.
Tickets are first come, first serve, so purchase early. Friends and family are all welcome. Please feel free to join us in the theatre's cafe and bar area before the show at 7:00pm. Afterward, join us at the Fire Station 1 Restaurant and Brewing Company down the street for suds and merriment. In the meantime, here is an advance clip from the film to get you in the mood. Hope to see you there!
Somone over on the D-Day forum posted this question -
"I hear a lot about having the "Full Experience" and I
want that, but I haven't the slightest idea on how to go
about it. I don't know what day to come, what day to
go, how to get to the event, what unit is for me (do
some units stay in certain areas or do they all go where
they are told to go depending on current situations).
Assuming that I can stay the from start to finish, should
I come the day before the event and leave the day after
event? So basically, I want to know how to plan the
greatest paintball experience of my life?"
Here's a reply that answer these questions and perhaps
some of yours as well.
What is meant by 'The Full Experience' is getting the most
for your money by showing up on Monday (or earlier) so
that you can take advantage of all of the mini-games and
get more hang time with your new 'team mates', make new
friends (Red and Blue). Most units have several formal or
informal training sessions during the week which is especially
useful to integrate new members. You will also find it useful
to walk the field with your unit to learn which areas you will
most likely be covering.
Many of the units have traditional activities that they hold
on various days. Some of them are open and some are by
invite only.
The 'Full Experience' starts the Monday before and actually
ends the following Sunday. The big game is on Saturday
with rec ball on Sunday for those that do not have to pack
up and leave. There is a mini-game each day (Mon - Fri).
This past year was the first with a game on Friday.
Here is a link to the recruiting threads. You will find a thread
in each (Allied/German) which describes either the Allied or
the German units and what they do during the big game. http://forums.ddayadventurepark.com/...cruiting-Depot

I plan on going in 2013. I've been trying to go for the past few years but I will finally be able to make it (hopefully). I've looked thruogh the registeration form and was wondering what the difference, if any, is between the battalions. I am leaning towards the German forces but am unsure of the battalion I should join. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.
Of course I am biased towards the German 6th....go Green Devils!

I'm pretty sure my guys will be going Allied as most of our team is active duty Army. It looks to be a blast in 2013, I'll finally be going back to D-day after 11 years.

Here's the latest from the guys who created a film
entitled "Soldiers of Paint."
~~~~~~~~~~
"Soldiers of Paint" advance clips and DVD info!
Hey folks. We have some advance clips up on our website
and also have started a crowd-funding campaign. As many
of you know we have completed the film (for those unaware,
this is a documentary feature film about Oklahoma D-Day),
but we're not quite out of the woods yet. We need to raise
funds necessary for getting DVDs done and out for you all
and the world to see. You guys have been awesome in
supporting us while we have worked to get this film done
over the last five years. And we need just a little more help
to get through this last push.
Contribution levels start at as little as 10 bucks and in return
for your support we have several perks to offer, including copies
of DVDs as soon as they are available. Big ups to 899th Blackcat
Justin Blanfo for leading the way on being the first OKDDay
member to contribute to our campaign. Thanks man!
We also just had a screening here in DC and it was a huge
success. Gotten a lot of glowing reviews, especially from people
who have never had an interest in paintball. Check out some of
the comments here> http://soldiersofpaint.wordpress.com/
Here is a parting shot from our screening:
Sincerely,
