Pros: its fun, makes you better, costs less (until you start piling up CC M's), and is fun

Cons: none!

So true! Save your money, borrow a couple of times. Get comfortable, relax, have fun. Talk it up and see what you want to do for a marker.

Pros: You can play an entire day on less than 500 rounds and on one fill of a 48/4.5k tank. It is a lot of fun, and makes you really think about playing paintball instead of just pulling the trigger and spraying paint downfield.

Cons: none. You're still playing paintball.

Go to your local field and find the resident pump player. Most are more than willing to help convert by loan. Ask around.

Pros

1. People point at you and think you're an easy target. They might even pick you last for teams! You get to prove them wrong, then maybe convert a few because of it. You'll definitely become "the pump guy" at your field.

2. You get to actually PLAY paintball. Meaning, you get to think about the game, strategize, pick your shots, really build your game.

3. You save on paint and air costs.

4. You aren't lugging a huge pack with a ton of pods in it. Free to breathe when you run because of the lack of weight and cinched up belts.

5. Did I mention it's just plain fun?

Cons

1. People will try and make fun of you at first. If you can't handle that, you're screwed, even i you prove them wrong.

2. It gets old telling people that it doesn't ramp, doesn't shoot harder or faster or farther, and that the tube thing on top isn't a sight.

3. You get to actually PLAY paintball. Meaning, you have to think about the game, strategize, pick your shots, really build your game. You can't just throw pod after pod of paint at a single guy. Some people would rather do that.

One con about pump is you will quickly become addicted and end up with more pumps than you realize. CCMs are the gateway drug to becoming a pump whore.
I've been addicted for 6 months and already have/had 6 pumps....

Pump is the way to go

It's been said already, but you actually become better and have to think about the game. I played with a bunch of 12 to 13 year olds using semis and I felt sorry for them and used my old school PMI Trracer instead of my Impulse semi. I used way more tactics and had far more kills using my pump. I got hit once all day and that was when I was using my Imp and started getting very lazy and taking cover because I could put so much suppression fire down range. I got hit from someone I didn't even see, but getting lazy was my fault. You can get a old PMI trracer for less than $40 if you can't borrow in your area, but try to borrow first.

Pros; you will HAVE to learn how to shoot well. In this day of electro walk ons have a huge ROF advantage over you, not by any means insurmountable, since a well aimed shot will either eliminate them or scare them into cover, but you can only do that if you become a good shot with the pump. When you play semi, after playing pump, you often easily transfer those skills.
You will shoot less paint, generally, but not exclusively. In a regular walk-on game you probably aren't going to dump more than a hopper ust because shooting requires considerably more effort than with a semi. But don't think you'll necessarily just be shooting so little paint. If you're playing aggressively, you'll be in firefights, and that may require laying down a slow steady barrage. but you can probably enter any given game with just a hopper and be fine.
Pumps aren't necessarily more gas efficient, so like any gun you need to figure out what shot count you'll get off your bottle.

Cons- no pump except maybe some of the Palmers have true ball detents, so because the gun works as a closed breech system, the ball rests in the barrel. If the ball and barrel aren't decently closed in match the ball can and will roll down and even out of the barrel. Out means a missed shot, down the barrel means reduced FPS which can means less accuracy.
I often have wondered why CCM doesn't just extend their breech an inch and installl a true ball detent there. AntiDouble feeds are different.
Shootign a pump can feel different than shooting your fave semi and demands that you learn how to be accurate, or you simply will not be. I had a few games yesterday where I missed simple shots that with my shocker I would have definitely been able to make. One was in a front line bunker, leaning to the left and shooting down into a valley only about 50 feet, but the I had to be low enough to not get shot over the top of my bunker from the guys in front, and not get shot by the guy in the valley who caught on really fast thatI was shooting at him. He gave me several hopper targets that I missed! until finally I snuck one through into his body, but jeez I need to practice aiming with that pump!
