I don't think anyone has pointed this out yet, but: If you apply a light film of synthetic (preferred) or DOW33 based grease to the Orings, it prevents those contaminants from doing much harm unless there's a **** ton of it.

Secondly, the RX has an enclosed bolt, so random **** and contaminants WILL NOT enter the breech anyways.

If the Orings are fitted, the drag is less than negligible and I have had almost all my my poppet bolts pooty modded (except Angels and Legends) and the benefits GREATLY outnumber the cons that come with oring/xring modification.

Although, helps even more to throw on some fitted HNBR rings instead of Buna, but then the service would cost a lot more.

The wear is when the bolt runs dry and is "self lubricating" by breaking down. This allows larger gaps than necessary between the bolt and breech. THAT is when debris gets in and rides the bolt and grinds away at the breech.

Noticed why people who lube their bolts tend to get better efficiency and consistency and always still have anodizing in their breech after several dozen cases of paint (or less in many instances)?

It's not good that that happens.

EDIT: on efficiency isn't the only thing. Lower OP and Dwell also mean a snappier and smoother shot as well as consistency gains over time and with other upgrades and modifications.

No design is perfect and can't bear to be improved on. Now there are downgrades as well, but this is not one of them.

Grease is not what goes on the bolt oring... you use a synthetic OIL. Triflow works very well (and is what BL recommends). Also... when you dump a pod in your loader do you toss it on the ground? Do you pick it up after the game, then reload it will paintballs for the next game? We all do and contaminants WILL make their way into your gun. Period. There is no way around it.

I would have to agree. Usually on most bolts, the front of it gets scratches and wear, while the back part stays fairly original. Same for the breach.

You're Mister Argumentative, aren't you? Using a grease lubricant on the seals of a bolt on a stack tube poppet marker is no different than using a grease lubricant on a spool valve marker.

BL owners might be told to use pneumatic tool oil on their bolts because they are told to use DC55 on everything else. DC55 is petroleum based and swells the seals.

Lol... really? Dow55 is specifically mentioned in the 07 borg manual as one of the recommended lubes. Also, go to the triflow site... paintball is specifically mentioned. Lighten up man... BLAST has been making timmys and has made many more of them than MacDev has made borgs and he recommends oil on the bolt. Consequently, PE also recommends oil on the bolt. Also, if you think that all grease on spools is the same then you are wrong about that.

The other thing I addressed was debris getting into the gun when it is enclosed. Spools get breech wear too; contaminants can and will get in.

Back on topic, good care and cleaning is the best way to keep your gun in top shape. Pooty modding is something that I prefer not to do because I don't see enough benefit to it to spend the money in the first place. Like anything though, it's your money and your gun so you are free to do what you want.

Actually if you read the manual of any stack tubed poppet, it will tell you to use a paintball specific synthetic oil on the bolt. I'm sure you already know this though.

Yea. I also remember bolts on stacked tube poppets getting vasoline (as long as the seals were polyurethane and not rubber) from the factory.

Well in the rx, the bolt sleeve thingy (I forgot what it is called) keeps the bolt straight all the time, so really the only thing touching the breech in my rx (gold bolt btw) is the o-ring. And to the oil vs grease arguement up there, oil on the bolt and lube on the ram unless stated by the manual... For me anyways. For my rx I use militia and lurker (still trying to see which performs better) on everything, the only time I use OIL is just a drop down the Asa every month or so. Really I think it is a personal opinion on weather you use oil or grease, although I stick to what the manual says because the engineers that made the gun have most likely spent hours, if not days testing.

Just a personal opinion..

I've been using Militia Lube in the upper and lower tube on my RX and it seems to work well. I've used gold cup on cockers for years and it has worked well. I have also used Monkey Oil and in spools it's amazing, but in a poppet I can't really see a difference. I've pretty much settled on using Monkey Oil on my cockers and Militia lube for all the rest of my poppets.

What about it? I can't compare the stock bolt to the gold bolt to the pooty modded gold bolt... but I can tell you my Autococker SR shows 30 fps higher with the modded bolt vs the stock bolt.

I got about a 45 fps increase, the gun is slightly snappier, smoother, and a little more efficient.
