I've seen some benchmarks showing the 7950 OC'd with close numbers. It'srreally hard to decide though.
edit: Some guy on bitgamer is telling me dual 7850s OC'd will be my best bet for my price range. I thought crossfire had issues, and wouldn't I be better off with one higher end card?
As it's been said before, running dual cards, while maybe giving more power, comes with its own set of issues. It's not the best route if you are the type of person who just wants to play games without having to worry about compatibility.
The main reason I suggest going 670 is because a lot of games are made with Nvidia cards in mind and Nvidia is still better with driver support than AMD.
As for myself, my 670 has been able to handle every game I've thrown at it on max graphics settings @1080p. The only game it had any trouble with was Metro which is one game where AMD cards perform better. However it still stayed above 30fps for me, so it wasn't unplayable by any means. Other games I play using it like BF3, MWO, and Planetside 2 all perform around the 50-60fps range if not well above that.
I'm also really liking how OC'ing is handled in the 600 series cards.
