A lot of video editing builds I've seen use an i7-2600k. They are pretty affordable to start out with.

Just got these in the mail yesterday, promo code for 20% off, and a $5 promo gift card, can't beat it. I needed to replace the crappy fans that came with my case.

Dropped my internal case temps by 5-6* C

What is the preferred mobo for $250 and below?

I was considering this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131821

It has great reviews, all the features I need, made by a reputable company, and it looks purdy.

Also, i5-3570k or i7-2700k?

I have the 2700k and I love it, most would probably recommend the 3570k though.

If you're overclocking, mine took 1.4v to get 5ghz but on overclock.net I've seen many more 2700k's that took less voltage

I'm eventually going to get the 3570k based on the cost anyway. I don't really need an i7. I'd like one, but I feel the i5 will play games just fine.

Here are a couple other mobos I found that look decent as far as specs go.

Asrock- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157295
MSI- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130660

The i5 is better for your money in my opinion for what you're doing
I only got the 2700k because its all Intel's employee purchase plan had at the time and I got it for $67 threw my uncle who's a programming engineer at the Folsom location.

That's pretty baller

How good are Asrock mobos for overclocking? Is their bios easy to use?

As long as its not too hard to figure out with some searching google, I'm fine.

So I think this is going to be my next build once I have the money again;
  • ASRock Z77 Extreme6 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
  • Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz
  • CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133
  • ABS Majesty series MJ1100-M Continuous 1100W@50C ATX12V/EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified, Single 12V Rail, Modular
  • Rosewill THOR V2 Gaming ATX Full Tower Computer Case
  • LG Black 14X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA BDXL Blu-ray Burner,3D Play Back
  • SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC256B/WW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive
  • (2x)Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM
  • EVGA GTX570 classified (if I can find another one)

I will be adding my current 570 as well. Should be a decent SLI setup.

Why don't you pick up a 2tb caviar black instead of 2 1tb's?
Just curious.

Do you plan on overclocking? That psu might be a little much unless you want headroom.

I have an ax750 and my rig is drawing 620w supposedly according to neweggs psu calculator. I'm just running a single 6850 though.

I was always advised to run 2 drives in case one fails. I'd much rather just run a single drive.

Yes, I plan on overclocking everything + running 2 cards. The newegg calculator says I will be running like 830w without overclocking that setup.

My dual 8-core xeon system plus my 3930K + 3x 7970 system unoverclocked pulls like 1kw at full blast. Your system doesn't have a hope in hell of pulling anywhere near 800 unless you volt mod everything and run LN2.

It's also $50 off with the case, making it cheaper than most 750w PSUs.

I'm just telling you that you wont use that much juice so you can afford to get a smaller PSU.
