How much do you want to spend, and what do you mostly use it for?

New motherboard, new HDD and PSU, new case. New optical drive. New keyboard and mouse, maybe. New monitor for sure.

Guys I'm having issues with my disk drive.
It worked fine on my amd rig earlier today, and now that I plug it back into my current it's not recognizing it. I did the Microsoft fix it thing and it says it cannot be found and I need to call technical support.
Has this happened to anyone of you guys before?
If I had the money I'd just go buy a new drive but I don't right now.

Oh, it's a DVD burner.
If it's plugged into SATA power should it not at least open up when you press the button? Does that open it?

The only thing less reliable and durable than modern optical drives are tape drives. Buy a new one and a couple spares.
I have been on a Plextor kick lately but even those I don't trust.

The only plus side to disk drives is how cheap they are.

They're cheap because they're poorly made.

To answer your question above, yes it does open. You can hear the reader spinning and reading the disk but it just doesn't have the pop up saying what you want to do with it like import, view or that thing and it doesn't appear in windows device manager.

My lite-on is on its way out. Probably because it was like $16 around 5 years ago... It reads disks fine and everything but sometimes I gotta press the button like 5 times before it opens.

Does it read a CD only?
Honestly only had a problem with a desktop disc drive once and it was when I first built my desktop 4 years ago.
Maybe try this?
