*Official* Building/Upgrading Advice Thread
I have noticed a lot of people lately with question about building/upgrading a computer. (Including me) I just though it would be a good idea to make an organized thread so the board wont be cluttered.
For building just post your price range, and what you want to to with the computer
For upgrading just post your current system specs, your price range, and what you wan tot upgrade.
I hope this helps everybody out,
Nick

32-bit OSs can address 4gb total memory. Your RAM is the last to be allocated, so if you have a 512mb graphics card and another 256mb worth of various controllers (yes, your computer needs memory for that), you'll end up with about 3.2gb RAM max, no matter how much RAM is physically installed on the mobo. If you have more VRAM, you'll get less usable RAM.

IF you dont want to spend the money to get some cans or speakers where you will notice the difference a sound card will make, dont get a sound card.

Then I could make an UI and Gewee to trace IPs and cool stuff. Can I melt the silvers off of bordes to use them for new computationals? Ty!

I have a Xonar D1 I'm selling...
Had this, upgraded to this
Nothing wrong with the D1, but the STX had a headphone amp. I think they use similar components underneath. And the D1 is a PCI card.

Blaze is kind of an audiophile. Ask him if you will notice a difference in sound with the speakers you have.

You'd be fine with either one, but doubtful you could tell the difference after the $60 price-range, especially on speakers. I only went with the Xonar STX because I found a good deal on a used one and it had a nice headphone amp which I make use of with some DT770's. That was worth the upgrade for me, I wouldn't have paid $200 for one though.
Take a close look at the specs though, Creative SB's have been hyped up for a long time and don't have the components to match up with other brands like HT Omega / Asus. Back in the day they might have been the best, but not anymore.

I like the card, but I never recommended it. I hate the red LED, but other than that... it sounds great. Now that I know, if I got a different SB sound card, it would be the x-fi titanium. At the time I bought my card, it was on sale for $119 from $150 with free 2 day shipping through amazon prime... so I just bought only to fill a slot.

So I have been out of the building game for a while, my last CPU that I purchased was a Intel Q6600. So my question to you is, I have seen the new AMD CPUs with 6 and 8 cores, do they provide any use for that many cores in a gaming computer?
