Straighter Shooting

I've had my Etha since the beginning of the season and have shot about about 3000 rounds through it. I've noticed it smoothing out internally for me, but I'm sitting with my gun around 285/290 which is the course requirement and notice, while playing speedball, from home position, I can hardly hit the back dorito with consistancy. After the round, I noticed the guy I was trying to shoot at also had an Etha, and he was pretty much shooting missles at me and coming inches from my mask with every shot.

Would anyone know what kind of adjustments would allow this to happen or any other tweaks that are worth while on this marker? I've already adjusted my trigger and thankfully I did, much easier to walk the trigger in semi.

a clean, dry barrel and good paint... that's really all it boils down to. maybe try some different brands?

Freshly lubed gun as well as shooting the exact same paint as the other guy due to it being field paint only. Haven't even chopped a single ball to this point, but of course, I've still ran a swap through the barrel to ensure it's clean.

Have you tried borrowing your friends barrels, seeing if that improves your situation?

I have not, for it was some random kid we were playing with, but all his equipment was stock as mine. I've been debating a smaller bore size if anyone would have opinions on that helping or just making things worse. I believe the stock barrell is slightly oversized, but might be my imagination as well.

The stock barrel is 0.93, so it is quite large. From what I've read overboring will get you consistency, but cost efficiency. Underboring will increase efficiency and be somewhat consistent.

Apparently a perfect match is a toss up.

I would definitely test out another barrel at the field, see how much of an impact it makes.

The barrells I've seen on ANS are .683, not sure how much smaller that actually is, but I've been told you want some resistance throughout the barrell, but it should still fall through. With less movement throughout the barrell, I don't see how the shot would be any less accurate.

290 is 290. If you were both shooting the same velocity then you both should have basically the same trajectory and distance.

- If your shots are nowhere close to what you are aiming at - that is, if your paint is flying straight down the field but hooks/slices in any direction before it reaches the target - then you have an issue with something in (or about) your barrel, as this kind of shot behavior is typical of a barrel break

Though you have swabbed the barrel, ensured that it is indeed dry, something's still not right with it.

SUGGESTION: try using another Autococker threaded barrel to eliminate this as a probable cause, or have someone use your barrel. In the event that another 'Cocker barrel exhibits the same behavior (or your barrel is straight shooting on someone else's gun), then we need to dig deeper.

SUGGESTION: check your Detents to see if they are installed properly

SUGGESTION: check the Bolt assembly to make sure nothing's missing (bolt tip isn't missing, tip is slightly coming off, etc.)

I suppose if you could also be more descriptive of your shots being inconsistent:

- direction that the paint is travelling instead of flying straight at the target
- where in the flight path does it change direction (e.g., immediately, halfway down the field, right at the end)
- do any of your shots actually hit where you are aiming
- how frequently are your shots wide of the mark - every shot, every other, every now and then, e.g,. how many shots out of 10 miss what you're targeting
