Gtek vs CS1

I don't want to get flamed, but here goes. I have a one month old Gtek, and the lady wants to get into paintball, which justifies me picking up another marker. Is there a big enough difference to justify the cost between the Gtek (specifically the Gtek 160R) and the CS1? My biggest gripe about the Gtek is the plastic and macro, which the 160R solves. What would I be gaining and is it worth the cost to get the CS1?

Thanks!

Very few have gotten to shoot the new 160. I have seen it written that it is using the same engine as the Gtek. I have a CS1 and I have shot the Gtek and find the CS1 shoots a great deal better.

Shoot both and decide for yourself. I've got a Gtek and a CS1 & I love them both.

That's my tastes though yours may differ. The CS1 definitely has a pure high end feel to it which is appreciable when you're putting the markers side by side. However, on the field, they both shoot great (yes my CS1 is a tick 'smoother') but my gtek is so much fun on the field.

Shoot both and buy the one that makes you smile bigger when you shoot it.

Yeah, my Gtek shoots fine, but the lady will get that gun. I haven't seen anyone at the field with a CS1, only Shockers and a couple Luxes. I am quite interested in the Luxe Ice but I keep reading that it's basically an overpriced Shocker RSX.

Havent checked all the specs on the new tek. Is the board still leds? Dont pass on a used marker. ..these things are tanks, so if it looks good to your likeing....you may find a 3.5 cheaper or a lightly used cs1 for slightly more then the tek.

I haven't held the new tek but the difference between a 3.5 and cs1 is the following. Cs1 grips and body is slighly larger. Cs1 has an easy to read screen, is hose-free, and operates by AA batteries (which dont seem to hinder performance). My favorite parts of the cs1 is how the wires run, everything is spit at the frame so the wires dint get pinched. Im also a fan of how easy it is to service the reg.

Lol ... No. The Luxe ICE is not just an overpriced RSX. I can't stand how toy-like the RSX feels in my hands. It is just so small ... Not a feel I enjoy. My thoughts on the Luxe ICE can be found here:
http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=5353362

I am impressed with the GTEK, it shoots well and seems to be just as reliable as the IV core has been. However, I believe there is a big enough difference between the CS1 and GTEK to justify the more you will spend on the CS1. Used they are getting close to GTEK 160r prices. Honestly, you should hold and shoot all the markers you are considering.

Out of the 3, the ICE is my choice, but I'll be giving the CS1 another shot soon. I placed my thoughts on the CS1 in one of the threads, but I can't find it. Overall the CS1 is an excellent marker. It just came down to how it points for me vs the m2 and ICE.

Ive got a luxe ice, a luxe 1.5 and have some experience with the RSX. In fairness to the ICE, I wouldn't compare it to the RSX. The ice is built on the original shocker platform that was iterated into the luxe and further refined into the Ice.

The RSX is built on the Ion platform and is essentially a greatly refined version of that.

Having shot all of the above I love my 1.5 but it's more finicky then any other marker I've kept. I think in the long run the Ice will be good, but mine doesnt shoit head and shoulders above my 1.5.

All the above considered, you just need to shoot your options and make your decision. Ultimately I lean towards PE a lot because above all, i find their stuff always works when I pull it out of the bag. I'll also say that my CS1 is smoother then the M2's that I've had, the Ice that I still have. And that Luxe 1.5 that I adore. And it's never given me any issues.

Shot the Luxe ICE last weekend and gosh damn that thing is buttery! I prefer it over the CS1 after shooting and holding both. But I'm all for smooth, soft shots!

To me, the GTEK 160R = Gtek + Metal eye caps, back cap, and Geo Air Transfer (AT) line to the same SL4 regulator. All else looks the same. They borrowed the CS1 'trigger shoe' but the Gtek trigger and microswitch can be tuned just as well as CS1. Sure you don't get opto-switch as a backup for trigger activation, but microswitches are so good... who cares / needs?

And as far shot 'smoothness' which is subjective vs. decibels levels (close to shooter) and decibel levels (near target). Spools 'whoosh' is less noticable than the poppet 'pop' downfield when being shot at. Near the shooter they are comparable loudness wise. But to the person who says CS1 is way smoother than a Gtek. I own both, they sound 'signatures' are really close. I think someone wants to justify the high cost of the CS1 here

Also, a regular Gtek + $10 ninja braided 6" steel hose + $75 Oled upgrade board = Gtek 160R for like $650. Just replace the macro line as I show here in the pic.

If the glass reinforced nylon (GRN plastic) eye-caps and back cap are a concerned vs. Aluminum parts and are worth the extra $100 plus for ya, go for it. Otherwise, just keep buying the Gtek at $550 and add a $10 ninja steel line + $75 oled board = Gtek160R for less. GRN materials work just fine on my real firearms, like Glock pistols for example.

Solid advice, and yes, I'm trying to determine if it's worth the price. The plastic trigger drives me nuts though, so I might try to find a solution to that for my current marker until I decide.

I sold my CS1 in favor of the Gtek. The CS1 shot great, but I didn't feel it shot three times better than the Gtek. And in a game, you won't notice the smoothness anyway.

With that said, I'll probably have the new Gtek before the weekend is out. I feel they shoot better than the 3.5 does, and for $200 less if we're talking new prices here.

I liked my rsx more than my ice. I just don't like how many orings there are in the ice and the backcap on mine was always either leaking or not venting. I also don't really care for the whole rechargeable batter thing. So I sold the ice and went back to the cs1. I love the feel in the hands (I got big mitts so the cs1 feels great) and the AA batteries are a great choice. Their life span in the cs1 is fantastic.

I don't hate the ice. I just wasn't real impressed with it. I did however hate that the top of the ice reg isn't round. I found that very uncomfortable. But the reg maintenance on the ice is hands down better than the previous luxes

The Gtek's trigger is aluminum.

Also that steel braided hose is saxy

I shall go recheck it, but it didn't feel right, perhaps it's the anodizing.

Thanks guys! Trigger is def Aluminum.

Also, props to Jack and PE too, I love the look of the Gtek 160R, it's what we wish the Gtek was in the first place... but the 6" steel air line also works with the OOPS instead of AT pipe, also OOPS cap won't get lost since there's no macro to slip out...

Before YBPF went out of business, I did add their ball bearings to the trigger, this mod did work... both my GTek's roll like butter. Has good times playing a few scrimmages on Sunday recently at Santa Clara Paintball.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgDo6npMNFk (Richie did this). Did anyone else measure the ball bearings?

I'll have to get the micrometer out to figure out a replacement ball bearing. But this trigger is butter once this is done.

I think I might liquidate a 2nd CS1 for the GTek 160R... To be honest, its like the Geo 3.5 and the Gtek had an offspring named the 160R. The Gtek just handles better, to run, gun, and snap shoot IMHO.

Why in the world would anyone put a steal braided hose on a gtek? I have guns from the early 2000s with stock macrolines that work perfectly fine haha.
