I am a complete girl when it comes to the DS series. I played half of the first one, opened the second one just to check out the graphics, sat them on the shelf for a while, then traded them in... three words: **** THAT ****!!!
Call me names and flame... for some reason I just cant play that game because it freaks me the **** out haha.

I played half of the first one, and then put it away for a year.
Once I got over the scary bits it was fine, but **** did it make me jump.
Second one not so scary.

For Dead Space 1, turn off vsync. Leaving vsync on will force a delay from mouse registry. Dead Space 2 shouldn't have the issue.
Love these games. The first one was definitely the better game though. It goes to show just how much sound can and overall immersion can really turn a game in to a [frightening] experience. I honestly think Dead Space is rather underrated. Absolutely fantastic games in gameplay mechanics, immersion, story line, and art direction. Though I wasn't as happy with the second game, I still think they can pull off a third iteration with great success, having learned from the downfalls of the second story. But, if coop is going to available as the same story as single player, I won't be so happy...

First time I played Dead Space it was 1am and I had all the lights off with surround sound up pretty high.
Best worst decision ever.

DS1 was one of my favorite games in recent memory, haven't jumped so many times or been downright terrified of whats around the corner since some of the earlier Resident Evil/Silent Hill games. Horror and sci fi are 2 of my favorite movie genres, so the immersive, movie like quality of the first game was just plain awesome. I need to get my hands on the second one soon.

My wife absolutely hates anything scary, I told her I'd let her buy whatever she wanted if she played 1 hour of DS1.
She made it 7 minutes.
Nothing even jumped out. Just the ambient noises and she was NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOPE.

If I was her I would have played 5 min and then just hit pause for the other 55 min and read a book or something :/ haha
Great game and I agree with all the comments above. The sounds is unbelievable in the first one... never really played the second. I made it as far as the regeneration thing in the first one, froze his ***, and then went through the hydro plant and never picked the game up again

I love the Dead Space series, but pretty sure the Co-Op is going to kill everything scary about this game... Just an example, Resident Evil 5.

I'm all for it! If they can pull off making a co op game and still being down right dead space scary, I will be all about it. Another game that really made me lose faith in Co op horror games was Fear 3.

You guys found this game scary???
Honestly, the only game that creeped me out was silent hill for the ps1. I was a wee lad and that game was spooky.

So I guess the "leaked" details about isaac were just smoke and mirrors? Trailer made no mention of him.

dead space 1 was a mediocre creepy shooter
dead space 2 was a sub par shooter with pop out screamers
dead space 3 looks like a ****ty generic FPS.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first Dead Space. I thought they did a very excellent job with the environment and the little details that had you often sitting on the edge of your seat in fear or even just anticipation. Like in certain corridors, you might hear something and move, shining your flashlight around and see a necromorph slither along in the ventilation shafts. It wasn't super terrifying, to me, but as far as games go, it was very well done in the horror/survival genre.
Dead Space 2, to me, felt a little behind. I still enjoyed it and play it once in a while because it's a solid single player game, but it doesn't really seem to have that 'Oh My Gawd' factor that the first one had. There are still great ambient sounds and the environment is great, but the first one just felt a little spookier to me.
But from looking at the info for Dead Space 3, I am hoping for something pretty awesome. They are making it slightly less linear, too, so people may have more inclination to wander off the beaten path once in a while to look for things, rather than always following a straight line. And as far as co-op goes, a lot of people knock Resident Evil 5 for not being scary, but honestly I have never felt the RE series was even remotely scary. But I did enjoy the Co-Op in RE5, and find it fun to blast apart zombies with a friend.
