Kris gethin thing. It's not the greatest, but I've been losing "direction" in the gym so I'm following it for a little while just to get back on track.

do more pullups. Give yourself a target goal every day/every gym day and get that many pullups in using however many sub-maximal sets you can. Increase that number at whatever interval you feel comfortable with. Over the past week I've done 30 chins in between sets at the gym. Starting next week I'll bump it to 33-35. I'm doing sets of 5 right now. Eventually my goal is to be able to knock out 50 every gym day.

I have to jump up and not allow my elbows to lock out or else I can't do a single rep. Would I be better off just using the pullup assist machine for a few weeks until I can nail down proper form and gradually go towards real ones?
Even when I don't allow my elbows to lock up and pull myself up, they are still half assed and look pathetic.
Also, should I just be doing chin ups/pullups every day or only on back/bicep and tricep/chest days?

I agree, the stronglifts guide is good.
I wouldn't waste time doing 6x3 halfassed pullups if I couldn't do one real one.
chinups are easier than pullups. You can progress using negatives, bands, assisted machines or pulldowns. Basically work up till you can do one good, full ROM chin up. Then just do a LOT of singles, every day. Like 20+
Do them in between sets, while resting. Not just back day, every day you're in the gym. Eventually you'll be able to do 2, then just do 10 sets of 2. Then try 3, etc etc. The point is to not wear yourself completely out, and give yourself plenty of rest in between attempts.
The first chin/pullup is the hardest and takes the longest. Once you can do one at a time, you've got all the "tools" you need to build up to 100 at a time.

No offense to anyone, but Ive never understood how someone could not do one pullup. We would do them in gym once or twice a year from elementary up through high school and there is only one kid that I can remmber that couldnt do one and he is now pushing 300 pounds

I can't do a pull up. Long arms and weighing 250 certainly don't help me any.
There were a lot of kids I went to school with who couldn't do them. Pretty much everyone who could do more than 10 weighed around 150 or so.

I have fairly strong lats, it just seems as if my body won't let me or I have sort of mental barrier with them. I end up locking out my elbows and just really struggle to pull myself up. Chinups are the same way, but not quite as pathetic. I'll use the assist machine with like 50 pounds of assistance and nail out about 6-7, but as soon as it comes out to doing them by myself I'm just stuck. I'll just keep trying though. As soon as I get a single good one I'm sure it will "click" for me.
I'll keep using the assist machine for a little while and focus on form. I think my biggest issue (not a mental thing) right now is that I might be trying to use all arms instead of back.

Ehhhh. Yes and no. I've still got a lot of excess weight on me, but I wouldn't consider myself weak. Compare me to someone with low BF at 220, and yes, I'm weak.

Like I said before. I'm fairly certain that pullups are both a mental barrier and poor form/trying to use the wrong muscle groups. 50lbs is the lowest the machine goes. I should be able to get a couple "real" reps by myself, but I just lock out and struggle to get out of that.

I'm middle of the road (likely sub-par) when it comes to strength and I can bang out 6-7 with an extra 50lbs hanging below my dick
stop lying to yourself, it hurts progress
