Getting Shot in the ear

How come ppl say you hear a "ringing"noise when you get shot in the ear. I just think its funny but two of my friends when they got shot in the ear they couldnt hear, is this true?

In some cases. From what I understand, it's the nerve reacting but i don't know. If somebody smacks you in the ear, does it not ring?

I got shot in the ear. But Events covers my whole ear up. So, I don't know if that any anything to do with it. When I get smacked in the ear, everything sounds muffled. I'm not temporarily deaf for a few minutes.

I heard the ringing noise with my i4s, but didn't hurt because of the nice protection, just wasn't use to something like that

It was far worse in the days before ear protection was standard on goggles. My first two sets were JT WhipperSnappers, followed by Z-Leaders (V-Force before they were V-Force). Neither had ear protection. Got hit in the right ear from about 30 feet, and it was some of the worst pain I've ever experienced. I ordered up a set of Vents Predators the following day.

My ears have rung when shot wearing a proflex, but 9 times out of 10 if I'm getting shot in the ear its from a foot a way. So it never really feels great.

Agreed! Many moons ago I would just wear goggles. Then on a very cold day I got tagged on the ear. Worst hit ever.

Because it's true? Got shot in the ear with my proflex from some moron rental kiddie off the break and it rang for several hours. Not fun.

Its the closest thing to having a grenade go off by you, In movies and re enactments where everything gets muffled and you lose your perception of movement. An intense ringing in your ears and head as if you just came out of a blast.

Speaking of the Proflex, do you know of a place to pick up hard ears? I've seen some floating around the Nation, but nothing new.

If there's anybody connected enough to have them, it'd be Ross at Boss Paintball.

Even certain head shots can make your ears ring. I got shot by someone on my team right in the back of the head from 1 foot away. My right ear rang for about a half hour.

I got shot in the ear once and that was probably the worst shot I took in paintball. That ringing noise was crazy

I took a solid 3 to 4 hits in a row on my right ear... I didn't hear a ringing... I didn't hear anything! FOR HOURS! The whole right side of my head got really hot, almost instantly. Bad headache, ruined my day. Ended up taking a few shots that night and passed out. Woke up the next morning and I was fine

Medically speaking, for whatever reason, if you get hit in the ear, you can lose your balance and have moments of deafness and ringing. I have been shot when wearing Proflexes and it hurt pretty good. I was bunker'd while in the snake and got shot as someone jumped over. I had the intense ringing noise and a lost a little bit of balance. I just took a knee and waited a few seconds before getting up. After about 3-4 hours the ringing was gone and I was good. It sucks, but as far as I know there is no potential for real permanent damage.
