I'm sure we could all learn to use it, but the whole interface seems very unintuitive to me. Great for tablets, perhaps, not for mouse and keyboard. There are actions that just don't work well, such as taking your mouse to one corner of the screen to bring up the Settings/Start/Whatever thing on the right side of the screen, same story on the bottom left side of the screen for the start menu. The inability to view all apps by default upon launching the start menu seems stupid to me as well. It should at least be an option.

I actually like it. Can't wait to try it on one of the convertible x86 tablets.
It's not bad on a netvertible. Friend of mine has one with the dev preview on it, He's been using W8 more or less exclusively on it with no major complaints, and I kinda liked it with the touch screen. UEFI is pretty neat as well as compared to standard BIOS, although that's one more thing the Mac crowd can claim MS stole from Apple.

If it's similar to what I was playing around with on my iPhone.... navigation worked pretty well on the touch screen... so I don't see why it would be any better on a tablet. I might download on my iPad later to play around with... but after playing with it on my iPhone I think I've seen enough that it would work well on any mobile device. I don't use it as an everyday UI on my iPhone since the theme isn't very customizable as far as adding new folders... and very limited to a few apps on the front screen... unless I customize it directly in the source code. It only allows me to add and move app icons around. If it were more customizable, I could see this style UI pretty useful on mobile phone or tablet. I think it works well on mobile devices since it works in both landscape and portrait. At least that's how it worked on this particular Windows 8 theme.

I find the program to be underwhelming and has areas that need major improvement for me to even consider upgrading from 7.

I've had a developers copy for some time now. I am not impressed. It's too touch screen based for me and I just find it awkward using mouse and keyboard. Oh, and it's gay.

Seems like its directed at a younger era

Everyone says it's so touch based when in reality you live in the desktop environment. I have a Dell mini 10 and the resolution doesn't support the metro apps so they don't even open. If anything I should be complaining because I can't even use most of the things the metro UI offers, but I don't. Windows 8 has doubled the speed of my netbook compared to windows 7, with actual full aero effects! I was astounded when I could quickly open apps and run multiple tabs of chrome without a hiccup. This is the best version yet and people that say the metro interface is unbearable simply hasn't spent more than 15 minutes with it. You barely use it and are only forced to when it boots up, that's it. Everything else is Windows 7 running with less resources. I'll be upgrading right away

You say that you've had it for "some time". If that was true you would be in the same boat as me and would of found viable short cuts that actually increase your productivity rather than stifle it.

Aero doesn't exist in W8.

The bigger problem with W8 isn't that I can't figure it out, because of course I can, but the clients I work with at work will not be so easily acclimated.

Whatever feature has taken over with the transparent windows and taskbar is now functioning compared to the solid color ones in windows 7. Perhaps it is now part of the GUI rather than another resource?

I doubt the business world will make the change to Windows 8 seeing as many are still running XP and just transitioning or in the process of going to windows 7. But I'm not familiar with your office/place of business.

If someone has been using windows XP/7 and gets around the fact that their is no start button and simply are instructed to hit the windows key and start typing the app they want to open, they'll get acclimated rather quickly.

Yes "some time" as in I've had it since January. And nope not in the same boat. My PERSONAL opinion about it is still the same.

And you are entitled to it, I just don't grasp how it's "gay" or "awkward" compared to 7.
