Getting the aluminum for my diffuser setup, hopefully the place I'm buying the aluminum from can cut it tomorrow. Either the headers are going on, or my transmission is getting fixed this week. I hope headers, that way I can finally finish my exhaust.

Why would you use a diffuser?

because racecar

My car doesn't have a spare tire carrier, and the gas tank is exposed. I was going to get a piece of aluminum to cover it(like an under body panel), and just decided to make it into a makeshift "diffuser" for looks.

It's not functional?

I copied designs from what other C4 guys use that track their cars, but I don't know enough about aerodynamics to argue it's "usefulness" other than providing a little protection for the underside.

Should have taken a 3" holesaw to your bumper and called it good.

I'm not sure yet, I'm taking our patterns to be cut tomorrow. I'm thinking 1/4" aluminum, but I might go 3/16" depending on price. All said and done I'm hoping to spend less than 200 on metal and powdercoat.

Wait you're going to pay less than ~$500 on this and what is the weight?

200 is my aggressive budget. I need to buy the aluminum plate and have the guy cut it. I'm doing the fitting/mounting. The welding will be free, and then I need to get it powdercoated. It won't be anywhere near 500 though.

I'm guessing 35-40 lbs?

edit: I asked a guy on C4 forums what his weighed and what thickness aluminum he used, so I guess we'll see.

I don't get it, the Honda guys said diffusers are too expensive and too heavy but they spend more than that on JDM lips and ****ing cup holders. Thanks for making that argument even more Lulz worthy.

lulz

I'll post a final price when I'm all said and done with it, but IIRC the guy who made one on his ZR-1 said they'd cost around 225 or so, bare metal.

a diffuser with out a flat bottom is practically pointless....

but, since you're going for aesthetics, be sure to do a splitter and some canards up front. maybe some brake ducting. might as well look like a race car from all angles, right?
