CFOA Times

CFOA players,

I was curious what is the average time of day the division 3 5 man events are over on Sunday? From the team lists I see that not many teams enter so I'm assuming they don't get over very late. Can anybody give me an average time?

Thanks.

CFOA is at BL this weekend. With one field and all Div sharing the field is going to make it a very long day. Unless for some reason they put up another field.

I'm pretty sure they only had one field up because that was all EPL needed. There should be 2 fields but IDK where people are going to park for this event because at EPL this weekend where a field should be was used as parking and it seemed like there was barely enough. Also, not looking to be stuck there the entire day because a ****ton of people are parked behind me.

Their website also shows some kind of scenario game, not sure how that factors into the crowds.

and 8 of the 17 teams were 3man so those games are shorter. I am pretty sure they are running two fields because if they didn't we would be there until Monday

Geez, so can anybody give me an example from past events? What time did they get over? 5pm? 6pm? 2:30pm?

Trying to get an idea so we know how to plan our drive home out of state.

Award ceremony is usually about 6:30pm-7pm. So assuming you stick around for that, looking at probably on the road by 7:30-8.

This is just my opinion, but when there's only 2 fields the wait inbetween games is way to long. You spend 90% of the tourney waiting in the heat and getting fatigued, while 10% of the tourney is spent playing. That factor is one of the main reasons Why im not playing or trying to get a team together to play the cfoa. Does anyone agree? I think 3 fields would be appropriate.

90 % that a very high # I think !
If added another field would result in , cost to run another field ( refs) . $$$$ which affects everyone ! Then teams would be hurried to be on another field ( at some point of the schedule), so teams wouldnt have enough time to replan or plan breakouts , players , guns , etc ...( then someone would make a thread about how hurried the teams are ). Plus you would not be able to watch other teams play as to know how your going to play them .

Its honestly not an exageration. I understand the cost increase. But I played this years second event in Rock Hill, only two fields in use. I'd played d3. The d3 teams and the d5 teams were ran on the same field. I could expect up to 30-45 min wait inbetween games. Maybe with the exception of one or two games only having a 20-30 min interval.

That being said, I payed 100 bucks to play that 2nd cfoa tourney this year (which is cheaper), which bought me a few games, a ton of sitting around, and a chance to win a medal. But the way I see it, I can pay 45-60 bucks to play at PBC and play back to back points against real compition and have much more fun.

Show up at 7am and leaving at 7pm is 12hours worth 6-8 5min prelim matches. That's alot of down time. I've played EPL 5 mans that only had two fields and had far less down time

Also, I don't think creating one extra field would "rush" players. If a player or team can't get ready in 10-15 min then thats one them, not the series.

Ultimately, I think we should add another field and increase the price by how much? Or change the format. And before anyone's says, "this format is what you wanted." I never supported this 5man style over the race to style.

I'm not trying to bash, I like the cfoa and want to see it do well. I'm just stating an opinion and supporting it. Does anyone agree?

I do agree the down time is sometimes too much. I do not know if it is enough to warrant another field. The series only has 3 divisions, 2 of them with 12-16 teams (4 & 5). The other is D3 with 3-6 teams. My opinion the best fix to the waits is schedueling. Break it down into 3 groups and have different start times through the day. Example group 1 (12 -14 teams) Plays the 2 fields from 8:30 - 10:30. Group 2 (12-14 teams) Plays the 2 fields from 10:30 -12:30. Have Lunch and start back a 1:00 with group 3. This is just an example, they may not need 2 hours to get the 12 teams prelims played. If you have groups with different start times it will cut down on the wait between games. This will not shorten the day just the times between games for teams. Just try and make sure the same teams do not always have the early start times at each event so it is fair to all. Just an opinion that I think would work.
