I'm gonna kinda agree with this statement, in the beginning of the UFC and mma in general, Royce was the man and didn't need striking, however with the evolution of mma one combat art is not enough, you need to have that "mix" of different styles, I'm not a fighter and don't pretend to be, just a fan and my opinion
Edit: after reading a little more on the thread I think there may be a misunderstanding in the convo, seems tempted is talking about mma and josh about bjj?

This is kind of why I disliked fans when I competed, which even then was before sanctioning in my state and certainly nothing more than gym fight nights against dabelers. The fans watched TUF and roamed sherdog then became "on the couch" experts who never realised what goes into the technical side of it all, nor the true application of each fighting style.
They kind of seemed to ruin it all by arguing with those who train and/or compete about the dumbest things like "helio stole this from my YMCA krotty teacher" or "teh jits won't work on me bro, I never miss an episode of TUF."
We had a kid try to pull off some forward flip thing he "saw in the ufc" and he drove himself face first into the mat and twisted resulting in a minor shoulder injury. It's been a few weeks, but he still hasn't returned, but at least he tried to learn lol.
Never takes a punch? I compete in MMA, I box, and I compete in BJJ.
I'm:
1-0 in MMA
State Golden Gloves Champion
2x State Champion in BJJ
Now you.
He said he was 0-1
But seriously, as with Fedor; Rickson's no longer competing and has been discussed extensively throughout the existence of the sport (or rather when he hit the spotlight, whatever have you).
Love him? Cool.
Hate him? Cool.
Think he's a joke? That's cool too, we're entailed to our own opinion even if they are a bit misguided on either side.
The last few arguments on this thread (Fedor and Rickson) dragged because no one can let someone think what they want to think. It's like watching two headless chickens try to fight each other, all you're doing is running into walls.
Not to mention it's really annoying.
Now let's just all get along and hum happy tune while we watch Batista embarrass himself against the Michelin Tires mascot

Rickson is still relevant though. I'm talking about his instruction. He still teaches and is still an amazing instructor.

I said competing
My first teacher studied under Rickson and had nothing but good things to say about him. And if Rickson teaches anything like my teacher then he's a-okay in my book.

I'd really like Bonnar to get the W on this one. How he'll pull it off is beyond me.
Hopefully he's been working on his wrestling to impose his bigger frame on Silva. I think this fight is only 3 rounds if I'm not mistaken, he could do it....maybe.
Yeah, with the fight being a 3 rounder, I could somehow see bonnar grinding out a decision with his size advantage, even then, I don't give him much of a shot at all.
