2015 MLB Season Discussion Thread

Finally, season is here.

Oh, one minor note. Braves trade Melvin Upton and Craig Kimbrel to the Padres for Quinten, Maybin, two prospects, and a draft pick.

This is not the opening game for the Brewers I'd hoped for. Down 10-0 to the Rockies... in the 6th. Ouch.

predictions:

AL

west: Mariners (i hate picking the hot pick but yea...i have to)
central: DET/CLE (4 teams can legit get it, cleveland and detroit are the surest things...coin flip on who wins it but im leaning towards cle)
East: so lack luster, going with Baltimore for the best of a bad division

WC: LA and DET/CLE

NL

W: Dodgers, easy
C: hardest to pick but Pitt
E: Washington by a landslide, not even close

WC: STL and SF

i really hate not having anything surprising but in the NL its just so top heavy. I can see KC or the white sox making a run but frankly i think the royals take a step back and the sox are slightly over .500. in the AL east i also think any team can make a run to the playoffs but i dont like any of them in particular. id say BOS/Baltimore/Toronto/NYY are all valid picks.

Scherzer was as advertised. Unfortunately, Ian Desmond is a clown who can't field his position. I'll be so happy next season when he's not on the roster.

He'll hit you 20-25 jacks a year hitting around .270 so you gotta take offense over defense in his situation. I thought the Nats should have got rid of him in the offseason because they could of got something for him.

Unless Matt Reynolds rockets his way through AAA and into Citi Field this summer or Wilmer Flores shocks the world and becomes a quality ML shortstop, I'd probably be on board with the Mets making a push for him next winter. They had interest in him this past winter too until it became clear that they'd have to part with Syndergaard and that is just a silly idea.

Not like it matters, ownership is broke and hired a hack GM to run a team in the largest city in US like a small market team.

Tigers and Price came out strong. Avila and JD Martinez both hit homers, which is somewhat unexpected from Avila.

Still fun seeing Cespedes in our lineup and he had a double, triple, and robbed a homer.

Pretty excited for the rest of the season. But I think we still need to strengthen our bullpen

He hit .255 last seasons with a .314 OBP. The homers are nice but a 28% strikeout rate is ridiculous. He has regressed two years in a row after his breakout 2012 season. And his ISO on high fastballs has dropped dramatically. Quite frankly, he has no approach and swings at just about anything. He is night and day different from when he's behind in the count vs when he's ahead. He is not going to age well. And I can't wait to watch some team drop 18+ million a year on him. Gladly take that draft pick and wait for Trea Turner.

More like #BravesWillBeLuckyToBe500, they've had some good teams over the last few years but I don't think this will be a great season to be a Braves fan.

Nats are clearly the team to beat but I think the Mets can FINALLY sneak their way back into the post season if a lot of things go right via the wild card also, a big part of that has to do with playing well against the Nats since they were so abysmal against them last year. Being the Mets, I expect things to go catastrophically wrong instead because it is one of the worst run teams in the game. Marlins should be fun to watch too, especially after they get Fernandez back.

Mets need some bats. Im expecting them to trade for Tulo.

Is this the beginning of a miracle season for this new Braves team? Braves sweep the Marlins; the first time we open a season with a 3-game sweep since 2007.

I don't think they're going to trade for Tulo for a few reasons.
1) Huge contract to take on, ownership is broke.
2) Tulo is a huge injury risk, guy has barely averaged 100 games a season for his career. You could make the case that 100 games of Tulo would make the Mets a better team than 155 games of Wilmer Flores and I'd agree with you but a guy who can't stay healthy in over his first decade in baseball doesn't inspire confidence, especially when he is on the wrong side of 30 with 5 seasons left on his deal.
3) Front office will try to sell the fan base on Matt Reynolds this summer, he could be a pleasant surprise but more likely it is gonna come back to ownership being broke.
4) Rox wanted Syndergaard. Syndergaard and Matz seem to be off limits.

If the right deal came along, I'd love to have Tulo on the Mets but I'd be worried about his ability to stay on the field. There is also some concern about him moving from Coors to Citi and how much that will impact his production.

Rangers are doing what I'm afraid they were going to do.

Help.

Rangers will likely finish 3rd in the division. Wouldn't put it past them to finish 4th though.

BTW - It's Van Nostrand from the VLN FDT, I finally moved to Texas.

Matt Harvey in his first game in a year and a half against the best team in the NL:
6 IP, 9 K, 1 BB, 4 H, 0 R

Return of the ****ing king.

What part? Is it permanent or just temporary for your career?

I think we'll finish behind the Mariners and Angels. Astros are bad and even with Oakland's recent success, I just can never seem to put them ahead in my rankings. But I think maybe we could push and be a contender for at least a wild card. Choo and Fielder had down years due to injuries. Martin looks to be on the rise and hopefully Andrus can improve on his hitting like we thought he would have a few years ago.

Our pitching will still be mediocre at best though.
