Better Older Gun? (DM4,SFT, etc)

Which is a good classic marker?

Dm4
SFT
-Are there any that are better/ cheaper than these?
-What are you thoughts on these (or other) markers?

I was leaning towards the sft but I have heard great things about the DM4.

What do you think?

I dont have much experience with an SFT, so i cant really comment. However, you cant go wrong with a DM4. DM's are some of the smoothest and quietest shooting markers out there. I will say that DM4's and 5's are roughly the same price in the classifieds so I would recommend looking for a DM5. More efficient, lowered the feedneck, lighter milling, less chance of membrane failure. My DM5 is my trusted backup to my DM10. It literally NEVER chops paint, and i still to this day get comments on it, after matches people will always ask, "what gun is that, its so quiet".

Gotta be honest the Dm4 is one of my all time favs. The shocker however does weigh about half as much and have far more readily available parts.

With that said I'd go with the Dm4 for sure.

If you can find a Dm4 or even a Dm5 (my personal favorite) with a UL frame on it I would snag that. The UL frame on the Dm4/5 really changes the feel of the marker for the better in my opinion.
After that just bust out the electrical tape for some old school top hat modding.

"Better" is a subjective term. Technically is no better.

But other markers that were quality back then off the top of my head:
Alias Intimidator (or any Gen 5)
06 Ego
Angel G7
Cyborg

I'd definitely take a DM4 over an SFT. SFT's were still insanely inefficient. In the same general range, I'd take a FEP quest. While a couple years younger than these 2, they can still be found for $200 and under for stock 06's.

I hated my A4 Fly when I had it. One of the crappiest, spongiest triggers I've ever felt. GAT I could agree with though, those were nice.

Between those two, I would take a DM4.

Out of all the older markers, I would take an alias or Empire Timmy.

This is perfect. The quest is amazing for an older gun and if you can get a 4B bolt (thin air sports) it is almost perfect.

I can't say the same for this gun. Bought one brand new, and has been nothing but riddled with problems from day one. I love it how this marker is basically a spool version of a classic timmy, but the thing basically worked 3-4 times before it completely **** the bed. Where as I've had my Shocker SFT for as long as I can remember when it was fairly new(got it used in 04'.) Thing is beat to ****, blue anno is hardly left on it, hardly ever change batteries on the thing, and it just keeps going like a champ as long as you maintain it by cleaning/lubing the bolt assembly.

Sorry to disagree, but the Quest, I feel, is a sloppy marker that will **** the bed just if you look at it wrong. The board fried, the solenoid broke, and the LPR piston broke on mine. The gun would never keep a set LPR pressure, and ALWAYS creeped throughout its lifespan from out of the box(even with a brand new SideWinder aftermarket regulator.) The battery sits amazingly dumb in the grip(IE: it can rattle around, damaging the board.) The regulator is a horrid abomination, and the stock grips are rather cheap, low quality. The wiring is also pretty bad, and cheaply done. The only positives I can give the Quest is its ergonomics, and trigger. The trigger on the Quest is simply amazing, and the ergonomics are probably up there with the most comfortable marker I've ever held(added that you take the stock reg off, smelt it into nails, and put any other reg available on there.) The feedneck is also awesome if you like CCM's style(which I do.) This doesn't mean anything though if the marker simply just doesn't work. Ever.

I hate to say I like the Shocker over the Quest because the Quest just seems like everything I've ever dreamed for on paper, but in reality it performed exceptionally bad for me. Brand new, out of the box, poured over 700 dollars into the whole thing total(bought it brand new for 450$.) It remains a paperweight to this day, unlike my basically stock Shocker 03 SFT that has just been treated as damn door mat its entire existence for a much, much longer time. The Quest has left me very sour, and bitter about spending over 400$ for any marker to this day.

To add to the thread, though:

Getting older markers is a real pain once something starts going wrong, and the readily available parts for the SFT/NXT's doesn't phase the Shockers at all. That's not to say that parts for the DM4 are too hard to find either though, but Shocker's are just so much more wide-spread. I hear bad things about Shockers all day long, and the only thing I have to complain about it, is that the trigger sucks, and the on/off button will cause you to have an aneurysm due to it's unfathomably detrimental placement. So in ending - Go with whatever one gives you a better price. You won't really go wrong with either.

To counter the argument above. I've owned 6 separate quests and loved em all. (I buy and sell whenever possible but will always keep a quest). Any issue that was had I was able to fix simply. It's a very simple platform. The trigger is awesome like stated above and I agree that the ergonomics are great once the reg is swapped out (not necessary but some people didn't like the macro location on the stock). Basically some of the WAS boards had issues And the stock wires were delicate.
It's always best to try to get em in your hands to shoot em first hand and find which you like.
I like the quest

Quests are the only marker I like enough to give a pass as far as having OLED on. Every other marker from here on out gets OLED or gets dumped (ergo why I have an Aura for sale), except for my Quests. I've got an 06 and an 07. Love them like my children if I had any (ok, that's probably a lie, I'm far nicer to the Quests than I would be to screaming brats).

I would look for a good NXT instead of the SFT. Much better gun. Also, all the classic Timmys are great. Can't go wrong with any of them.
