I am wondering what the best paint to buy is, in terms of quality and price. i know that there are the $75 cases, but i dont think they are worth it for just a day at the field, or are they?

some of the paint that i have used;
XO V1
DXS bronze
DXS Recsport
DXS field
a bunch of others, these are just the most recent.

i have been quite happy with the DXS bronze, and even the XO v1 wasnt bad. i was just wondering if there was a better paint to go with, or just stick with DXS bronze?

First thing I would do is buy a case of Evil or all star or GI 4/5 star just so you know what its like to shoot some of the best paint out there. NOW you can decide how much money you want to put into your paint and whether its worth it or not.

Try APX paint its a good price

I prefer to shoot the best paint I can for the best price, I am partial to shooting
Nelson Anarchy... You can find it online for $60+

I would say the shell is great and the fill is thick, not ultra evil thick
But close... It seems that most of the paint that was super thick in the early 2000's is no longer that way, I think to many fields were complaining about cleanup.

meaning each box isn't necessarily the same size? what bore does it average out to usually?

Same great fill and shell hardness. It has been shooting fine through a 682 except for one batch, I had to buy a .679 back.

Apxgear fyre shot pretty good when I tried it in 2010, however most people will agree that the quality of fyre has dropped.

Ultra evil has been so consistent that last year we bought $3000 of it in one shipment, based on previous performance. I wouldn't do that with any other ball. It took forever to shoot it all, as we are pump players, yet it shot well after10 months of storage.

I used to shoot all star through my luxe and evil through my pump. I only run evil now because the rise in accuracy, consistency, and breakability is huge.

I must say I have liked evil and ultra evil, never cared for marbs.

For my bucks, I love Valken Redemption. The most freakishly consistent and round paint I have used. To top it off there is the sweet packaging. Glossy pimp box, with individual cardboard sleeves for added padding and moisture packets in each 500 round bag. They went, *ahem*, balls to the wall on these balls.
